Nurse Education Advisor (Primary Care)

Duties
The Nurse Education Advisor provides advice, guidance and assistance to nurses working in various First Nation communities.The Nurse Education Advisor will:
• Provide advisory/consultative services, professional support and guidance to First Nations nursing professionals
• Conduct monitoring activities (e.g. site visits), verify compliance with standards, assess/evaluate progress and prepare reports
• Participate in the identification of training needs for primary care health professionals; provide training activities
• Develop and deliver information sessions for best practice and knowledge
• Participate in orientating new hires to community based programs

📢 The first pull of applications submitted to this inventory will take place on Tuesday, October 13, 2026.The intent of this process is to staff one position on a temporary basis for approximately one year; supporting and travelling to Fox Lake, Garden River, Chateh, and Jean D’or from Edmonton, Alberta, where our regional office is located.A pool of qualified or partially assessed candidates may be established and used to staff identical or similar positions at this group and level with various conditions of employment, tenures (acting, assignment/secondment, deployment, term and/or indeterminate) in Alberta Region only.

Reliability Status security clearance

• Current valid registration as a Registered Nurse and a member in good standing with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta. No history of license suspensions or restrictions with any professional regulatory organizations, and no current or outstanding remedial action/strategy required by any regulatory body.
• Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that permits independent operation of a motor vehicle in Alberta.
• Possess and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Successful completion of a comprehensive orientation program including the effective demonstration of the nursing competencies required for working autonomously in a remote and isolated post, during the probation period or other duration determined by the region.
• Medical Clearance
o PRE-PLACEMENT: Category 3 health evaluation*
o PERIODIC: Category 3 health evaluation according to the schedule outlined in Section I of the Occupational Health Evaluation Standard for “ISC Nurses Assigned to Isolated Posts in Northern First Nations Communities.”
*This position requires a successful pre-placement Category 3 health evaluation. Exceptionally, due to the urgent need to maintain staffing levels in nursing stations, a temporary pre-placement Category 1 Personal Health Declaration evaluation may be accepted. In this case, employees will be asked to complete a Category 3 Health Evaluation within twelve (12) months of hire to ensure their compliance with the Occupational Health Evaluation Standard.

• Willingness and ability to relocate to Edmonton, Alberta or within a commutable distance to the position location.
• Willingness and ability to travel in small aircraft, off road vehicles and by boat in varied weather conditions to communities in remote and isolated areas.
• Willingness and ability to be temporarily reassigned to other communities as operationally required.
• Willingness and ability to perform on call duties, work after hours, and on weekends as required.
• Willingness and ability to provide on call and overtime to maintain 24 hour service provision based on operational needs.
• Willingness and ability to provide response services in times of emergency; such as during infectious disease outbreaks, natural disasters, and evacuations
• Willingness and ability to complete mandatory education/training relevant to the position, including cultural learning and nursing in-services required for the role. *All candidates must have valid BLS prior to appointment

Education
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution* with acceptable specialization in nursing, nursing service administration, nursing education or some other specialty relevant to the position.*Candidates with foreign credentials must provide proof of Canadian equivalency. Consult the Canadian Information Centre for International Credentials or Alliance of Credential Evaluation Services of Canada (ACESC).

Occupational Certification
Eligibility for registration as a registered nurse in a province or territory of Canada.

Experience
• A minimum of five (5) years of experience as a Registered Nurse providing nursing services in one or more of the following areas:
o Primary Care
o Urgent Care
o Emergent Care
o Acute Care• Experience advising on, evaluating, and facilitating the teaching/learning of clinical nursing practice for example preceptoring, mentoring, or orientation of new staff.

Asset Experience
• A minimum of one (1) year of experience as a Registered Nurse providing nursing services in remote and isolated locations. Remote and isolated locations includes but is not limited to nursing stations, outpost nursing, or northern settings with RN first call.
