Articling Student

Duties
As an Articling Student at the PPSC, you will undertake legal activities in criminal law, including research on legal matters and opinions, preparing legal points, and providing legal support on files or projects. This is an excellent opportunity to get hands-on experience working with prosecutors within the overall context of large, complex criminal prosecutions.

Important messages
This position is located in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. Successful candidates will be expected to reside and work in Yellowknife for the duration of their articling term. Candidates should carefully consider the relocation requirement before applying.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Mobility: Possession of a valid driver’s licence that authorizes the holder to independently operate a passenger-class vehicle.
- Travel: sometimes on short notice, for extended periods, and may involve air travel.
- Overtime: including evenings and weekends.

Education:
- A Bachelor of Law degree (i.e. Bachelor of Law (LL.B), Juris Doctor (J.D.), LL.L, or equivalent) at the time of appointment.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS:
-Experience that demonstrates an interest in criminal law.
-Experience working in a cross cultural environment, particularly in Indigenous communities.
-Experience working in a northern environment.

Preference will be given to veterans first, followed by Canadian citizens and permanent residents, with the exception of jobs located in Nunavut or Yukon. For positions located in Nunavut, qualified Inuit enrolled under the Nunavut Agreement will be appointed first. For positions located in Yukon, qualified Yukon First Nations will be appointed first, followed by qualified Indigenous persons.
