• Responsible for winter Track setting Activities / Trail Prep & grooming, Snowmobile operation, trailering tasks.
Maintenance Worker II – Trail Crew
• Provides general maintenance, repair and labour services to support backcountry trail and infrastructure maintenance and construction; and other general maintenance and repair requirements for Parks Canada Agency.

Intent of the process
The results of this process will be used to fill anticipatory term vacancies and may be used in the future to fill permanent or temporary vacancies that may arise at the Maintenance Worker II, GL MAN 03 group and level, in the same, or other, areas within the Parks Canada Agency with full or part-time hours for various tenures, such as: Indeterminate, Term, Acting Assignment or Assignment at level, depending on status of the selected candidate.
The work location will be one of the following: Lake Louise, AB, Yoho National Park BC or Radium Hot Springs, BC depending on the position being filled.

Operational Requirements
• Willingness to wear a Parks Canada uniform and personal protective equipment
• Willingness to work irregular hours, overtime, weekends and / or statutory holidays and provincial / territorial holidays
• Willingness to assist in forest fire suppression, including stand-by and extra duty.
• Extensive physical effort required to work for prolonged periods of time.
• Willingness to obtain and maintain valid chainsaw certification (only for Stream 2 -Trail Crew)

EDUCATION
• Successful completion of secondary school according to provincial standards or acceptable combination of education, experience and training.

EXPERIENCE (3 STREAMS)
• Experience planning and carrying out construction and/or maintenance tasks in a team environment
EXPERIENCE (STREAM 1 – General Maintenance Crew)
• Experience performing general maintenance tasks as they relate to: groundskeeping, road maintenance and basic carpentry
• Experience operating and maintaining a variety of equipment used for grounds and maintenance activities, including snow removal equipment (e.g., skid steers and tractors), mini excavators, lawn tractors, mowers, chainsaws, trailers, and/or backhoes.
EXPERIENCE (STREAM 2 – Trail Crew)
• Experience in overnight backcountry travel by foot, in mountainous settings
EXPERIENCE (STREAM 3 – Winter Track Setter)
• Experience operating snowmobiles and/or all-terrain vehicles
Applied / assessed at a later date
KNOWLEDGE (3 STREAMS)
• Knowledge of safe work practices associated with the operation of light mechanized equipment, trailering and regular maintenance procedures
• Knowledge of general construction methods and safe work practices associated with hand and power tools
ABILITIES (3 STREAMS)

• Ability to identify problems, conduct basic inspections, identify required repair and maintenance, plan and implement appropriate remediation

• Valid chainsaw certification

• Carpentry experience as it relates to construction
ASSET EXPERIENCE (STREAM 1 – General Maintenance Crew)
• Experience with labouring tasks associated with general grounds/road maintenance
ASSET EXPERIENCE (STREAM 2 – Trail Crew)
• Experience working around and with helicopters
• Experience working around and with horses
• Experience building and maintaining trails and trail/campground infrastructure
ASSET EXPERIENCE (STREAMS 2 & 3 – Trail Crew & Winter Track Setter)
