Research Assistant - Research Affiliate Program

Duties
The Zero Emission Technology group requires a Graduate Research Assistant to support the execution of OERD-funded Critical Minerals (CMs) projects focused on valorization of industrial solid wastes through recovery of critical minerals. Key project activities include: feedstock preparation and characterization, reaction system operation and simulation and/or modeling, engineering support for test rig development, experimental data collection and analysis, and preparation of technical reports and presentations.

Education:
Undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering, or Material Engineering, or Mining Engineering from a recognized university or Graduate degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Mining Engineering, Geology, or Environmental Engineering from a recognized university.

Experience:
1. Experience in minerals recovery and extraction systems.
2. Experience working in a laboratory environment.Note: In the context of student recruitment in the Federal Public Service, the experience can be acquired through the studies, work experience, or volunteer activities.

Knowledge:
1. Knowledge of mineral and chemical processing units and design.
2. Knowledge of materiel characterization techniques such as XRD, SEM, XRF, etc.

Asset Qualifications:
1. Experience in specialized mineral processing system such as pressurized autoclave and microwave systems.
2. Experience in working with Aspen simulation and/or OLI or other equivalent minerals thermodynamic software.

Preference will be given to veterans first, followed by Canadian citizens and permanent residents, with the exception of jobs located in Nunavut or Yukon. For positions located in Nunavut, qualified Inuit enrolled under the Nunavut Agreement will be appointed first. For positions located in Yukon, qualified Yukon First Nations will be appointed first, followed by qualified Indigenous persons.
