About the position

Work environment
The Department of Justice Canada is recruiting experienced counsel to join a dynamic team working on some of the Government of Canada’s most challenging and important files. This is an opportunity for lawyers who are passionate about protecting and promoting competition, fostering competitive and innovative markets for the benefit of Canadians and the Canadian economy and advocating for the public interest. Counsel will play a meaningful role in matters of national importance, with significant responsibility and early hands-on involvement. Experience in competition law is an asset.
The Competition Bureau Legal Services (CBLS), advises and represents the Commissioner of Competition in the enforcement of Canada’s competition laws. Counsel in CBLS play a central role in shaping enforcement strategy from investigation through litigation, working on complex matters that affect Canadian markets, businesses, and consumers. They provide practical, rigorous legal advice; assess evidence and legal risk; support the development of remedies; and appear before the Competition Tribunal, the Federal Court, provincial superior courts, and appellate courts. The work requires strong judgment, sophisticated litigation skills, the ability to develop deep expertise in competition law and the ability to work effectively in multi-disciplinary teams while offering meaningful opportunities to contribute to high-impact public-interest enforcement.
