About the position

Duties
Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada are seeking to hire a Senior Engineer to join Yukon’s Northern Contaminated Sites multidisciplinary team of professionals involved in overseeing the remediation of abandoned mine sites in Yukon.
This position is anticipated to work extensively on the following projects: Ketza River Mine, Arctic Gold and Silver Mill and Tailings, Venus Mill and Tailings.
The Senior engineers will also from time to time assist with other contaminated sites projects in the portfolio.

Intent of the process
📢 Immediate opening: 1 full-time indeterminate position in Whitehorse, YT.
This process also serves to create a list of qualified candidates for future opportunities (Deployment, Assignment, Secondment, Acting, Term or Indeterminate) at Crown-lndigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada and Public Services and Procurement Canada, within the Yukon, with varying security requirements (reliability or secret).

Your application must clearly explain how you meet the following
EDUCATION
• Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in environmental engineering, mining engineering, civil engineering, geotechnical engineering, geological engineering, chemical engineering, water resources engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or some other accredited engineering specialty relevant to the duties of the position.

EXPERIENCE
• Significant experience* in management of technical projects with demonstrated experience in at least 6 of the following typical project management areas:
i. work planning;
ii. scope setting;
iii. schedule management;
iv. budget management;
v. cost estimation;
vi. risk assessment;
vii. risk management;
viii. construction administration & documentation;
ix. tender process; and
x. contracting.
• Significant experience* providing engineering services including all of the following:
i. preparing and/or reviewing engineering drawings & technical specifications;
ii. completing and/or reviewing reports from site investigations;
iii. completing and/or reviewing construction completion reports.
*Significant experience is defined as having the depth and breadth of experience acquired over a combined period of at least eight years within the past 12 years.

ASSETS
• Registration as a Professional Engineer within Canada, with ability to register to practice in Yukon (Engineers Yukon).
• Master of Engineering Degree in a relevant field.
• Project Management Professional (PMP) designation from Project Management Institute (PMI) or equivalent.

• Experience in mining projects and/or mine closure & reclamation projects.
• Experience in contaminated sites remediation projects.
• Experience working with Indigenous groups and collaborating with various stakeholders.
• Experience with Canadian Environmental regulations and legislation, Canadian Occupational Health and Safety legislation and/or Yukon’s Environment & Socioeconomic Assessment Act.
• Experience working with northern engineering design, principles and constraints.
• Experience with water treatment and conveyance systems design and/or operation.
📝 These criteria are not mandatory. However, preference may be given to candidates who meet some of them.
