The Royal Military College Saint-Jean (RMC Saint-Jean) is one of Canada's two military universities. Founded in 1952, it has been recognized as a university-level institution by the National Assembly of Québec since 2021.
RMC Saint-Jean provides pre-university and university education to future officers and non-commissioned members of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF), instilling in them the skills required to excel in the profession of arms. Its officer cadets and naval cadets, drawn from across Canada, learn in a genuinely bilingual educational environment that is rare within the Canadian university landscape.
The College occupies the site of Fort Saint-Jean. Together with Québec City, this heritage site is the only place in Canada to have maintained a continuous military presence since the French Regime: the first fort was built here in 1666 by the Carignan-Salières Regiment, and the Fort Saint-Jean Museum preserves its memory on the campus itself. Located in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, on the banks of the Richelieu, the College stands at the gateway to Montréal and to one of the most significant university and scientific hubs in North America.
RMC Saint-Jean is a human-scale institution in full expansion. It is currently developing new university programs, including one in climate science and security, which will broaden both its educational offering and the scope of its research areas. Its research capacity is following the same trajectory, guided by the 2024-2029 Strategic Research Plan. The College is home to the Centre for Security and Crisis Governance (CRITIC), established in 2020, and the Research Chair on the Reserve Force, launched in 2026, which addresses the organizational and operational issues facing the CAF Reserve. It has developed partnerships with various university and college institutions, both nationally and internationally. It is also an active member of an international network of military academies offering university programs.
Its growing faculty contributes actively to scientific output, and its expertise is regularly sought after.
To join RMC Saint-Jean today is to take part in the rise of a university capacity: shaping new programs, building research areas, and leaving a lasting mark.
Intent of the process
The Department of National Defence (DND) is entering a pivotal period of transformation and growth, driven by evolving national and global geopolitical priorities. This expansion reflects our commitment to strengthening Canada’s defence capabilities, modernizing operations, and advancing strategic initiatives.

Several targeted recruitment initiatives are underway to attract diverse talent across a wide range of disciplines, enhancing our ability to deliver on strategic and operational objectives.
The intent of this process is to build a dynamic pool of partially or essentially qualified candidates to fill current and future vacancies across DND’s operational landscape. Successful candidates may be considered for a range of meaningful opportunities that support our evolving mandate and contribute directly to Canada’s defence and security.
