About the position

Work environment
As an Occupational Safety Officer, you will play a key role in supporting and advancing occupational health and safety across RCMP workplaces throughout Nova Scotia. You will provide expert advice and guidance to managers, employees, workplace health and safety committees, and other stakeholders on a wide range of occupational safety matters.
In this role, you will conduct workplace inspections, audits, investigations, hazard assessments, and program reviews to identify risks and recommend practical solutions that promote a safe and healthy work environment. You will monitor and evaluate occupational safety program performance, develop and deliver training and awareness initiatives, and support compliance with occupational health and safety legislation, policies, and standards.
Working in diverse and dynamic environments, you will collaborate with internal and external partners, contribute to incident response and special operations when required, and serve as a trusted advisor on occupational safety issues affecting RCMP employees across the province.

Intent of the process
The intent of this process is to staff one (1) indeterminate position in Dartmouth, NS. Applicants are encouraged to apply ONLY if they are able to relocate or commute to the advertised location of work.
A pool of qualified candidates inclusive of Public Service (PS) employees and Civilian Members (CM); may be established through this process to staff identical or similar EG-06 / SP-TC-06 positions on a temporary or permanent full‐time basis.
Should a CM be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to another category for the member.

EDUCATION
Graduation from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in occupational health and safety, industrial hygiene, health physics, safety management, safety engineering, or another field relevant to the position.

EXPERIENCE
Experience providing advice or recommendations to management or stakeholders on occupational health and safety matters.
Experience conducting workplace inspections, audits, assessments, reviews, or incident investigations to identify occupational hazards, assess risks, determine root causes, and/or recommend corrective measures.
Experience developing, implementing, coordinating, or evaluating occupational health and safety programs, policies, procedures, standards, or workplace safety initiatives.
Experience collaborating with multiple stakeholders (e.g., managers, employees, committees, unions, regulators, contractors, technical specialists, or external partners) to resolve occupational health and safety issues or advance health and safety initiatives.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS
OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION
Certification as an occupational safety specialist, industrial hygienist or public health inspector.
This includes but is not limited to certification as a:
1. Canadian Registered Safety Professional by the Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals;
2. Canadian Registered Safety Technologist by the Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals;
3. Registered Occupational Hygienist or Registered Occupational Hygiene Technologist by the Canadian Registration Board of Occupational Hygienists;
4. Industrial Hygienist or Occupational Health and Safety Technologist by the American Board of Hygiene or jointly with the Board of Certified Safety Professionals;
5. Certified Health and Safety Consultant by the Canadian Society of Safety Engineering;
6. Public Health Inspector (Canada) by the Canadian Institute of public Health Inspectors Board of Certification.
EXPERIENCE
Experience in the application and interpretation of occupational health and safety (OHS) policies or legislation in accordance with federal and provincial legislation and regulations.
Experience working with health and safety committees, employee representatives, unions, regulators, or other stakeholders to address workplace health and safety issues and implement solutions.
Experience supporting emergency management, incident response, business continuity, disaster response, or major event planning.
Experience working in a policing, public safety, emergency response, military, or government environment.
