About the position
DutiesThe Radio Workshop manages all radio communications equipment supporting frontline members in Nova Scotia. This is a highly technical role responsible for overseeing the installation, maintenance, and support of advanced communication technologies, while also supervising a specialized team.
In this role, you will lead a team of technical professionals and ensure the effective delivery of communication services, training, and operational support.
Key Responsibilities:
• Supervise and provide direction to a team responsible for radio and communication systems
• Oversee the installation and support of new communication technologies
• Provide training and technical support to frontline members
• Manage and support: mobile workstations (MWS), radio encryption systems, in-car video systems, and software installations for MWS peripheral devices.
• Provide on-call technical support to the Emergency Response Team (ERT)
• Collaborate with IM/IT Telephony Coordinator on satellite phone support
• Coordinate and support communications equipment for major events
• Provide encryption services and support for the Trunked Mobile Radio (TMR) network across Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island
Intent of the process
The intent of this process is to staff one (1) indeterminate position in Dartmouth, NS. Applicants are encouraged to apply ONLY if they are able to relocate or commute to the advertised location of work.
A pool of qualified candidates inclusive of Public Service (PS) employees and Civilian Members (CM); may be established through this process to staff identical or similar IT‐03/SP-ICT-03 positions on a temporary or permanent full‐time basis.
Should a CM be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to another category for the member.

OTHER CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Possession of a valid Class 5 driver’s license.
Willingness and ability to travel regularly and work in operational environments, including police vehicles and specialized equipment units.
Willingness and ability to lift and carry equipment (e.g., up to 20–25 kg / 45–55 lbs).
Willingness and ability to work in confined or restricted spaces (e.g., vehicle interiors, equipment cabinets, trailers).
Willingness and ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including:
• Bending, kneeling, and working in awkward positions;
• Extended periods of standing or working in vehicles.

EDUCATION
Graduation from a two-year program of study from a recognized postsecondary institution with acceptable specialization in computer science, information technology, information management or another specialty relevant to the position to be staffed.

Ex1. Experience working with land mobile radio (LMR) systems, such as P25 and trunked radio networks.
Ex2. Experience in the installation, configuration, and maintenance of radio infrastructure, including repeater sites and associated systems.
Ex3. Experience supporting mobile and portable radio equipment including deployment, programming and operational troubleshooting.
Ex4. Experience diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing RF systems.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a field relevant to the duties of the position, such as Electronics Engineering Technology, Telecommunications, Radio Communications, or another discipline that provides knowledge and experience applicable to the role.

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION
Basic Amateur Radio Certification (Industry Canada)
Advanced Amateur Radio Certification (Industry Canada)
Certified Electronics Technician (CET) or equivalent
Vendor-specific certifications related to land mobile radio systems (e.g., Motorola, L3Harris)
Networking or IT certifications (e.g., CompTIA Network+, Cisco CCNA)
EXPERIENCE
Experience working in mission-critical or public safety environments, such as policing, emergency services, or military operations.
Experience providing on-scene technical support for major incidents, events or operations.
