About the position

Duties
Western Arctic Field Unit is seeking a positive and energetic individual to join our management team. In this pivotal role, you will be the cornerstone of our employee and management support system, providing comprehensive HR services that are as diverse as the places we protect and present.
Work environment
Parks Canada is a federal government agency responsible for the protection and presentation of Canada's outstanding natural and cultural resources through a systems of national parks, national marine conservation areas and national historic sites in all regions of Canada.
This position is based in Inuvik; Canada's largest community north of the Arctic Circle. A hub for the Western Arctic region, Inuvik offers unrivalled opportunities to experience Canada's unique northern cultures and some of the world's greatest natural landscapes. The warmth of the people makes it easy to feel at home in this modern, active town of approximately 3,000 people, accessible by both road and jet service. A good work-life balance means time to participate in festivals, sports and clubs, or just explore countless lakes and rivers, boreal forest and tundra, the Beaufort Sea and Richardson Mountains. Inuvik has many of the services, facilities and activities found in larger communities in the south.
Intent of the process
The intent of this process is to hire one (1) full-time position from August 2026 to August 2027.
This process may be used to create a list of qualified candidates to staff similar positions with various tenures, security levels or linguistic requirements in same or other parts of the country.

◼️ Willingness to work irregular hours, overtime, weekends and/or statutory holidays and provincial/territorial holidays, when required
◼️ Willingness to work and travel within the geographical areas of the field unit operations

EDUCATION
◼️ Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in human resources management, labour or industrial relations, psychology, public or business administration, organizational development, education sciences, social sciences, sociology, or in any other field relevant to the work to be performed
OR
◼️ Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable experience in human resources

EXPERIENCE
◼️ Experience in providing operational services or strategic advice to clients relating to staffing and resourcing, and in at least one (1) of the following areas: Labour Relations, Human Resources Planning, Classification and Organizational Design, or Learning and Development
◼️ Experience in providing operational or strategic advice, guidance and recommendations to management on complex or sensitive human resources issues
◼️ Experience in mentoring and coaching supervisors, managers and employees
◼️ Experience in preparing a variety of professional communications products such as messages to staff, presentations or written reports
KNOWLEDGE
◼️ Knowledge of human resource management practices, policies and principles
ABILITIES
◼️ Ability to manage and lead a team
◼️ Ability to provide strategic advice on human resource issues
◼️ Ability to succeed in an environment of fluctuating, unpredictable work demands and multiple, simultaneous priorities
◼️ Ability to communicate effectively and build strong relationships
