About the position

Duties
The Public Relations and Communication Officer plans, develops and delivers field unit public relations and communications products, activities, and services to engage the public, partners and stakeholders in the understanding, appreciation, and support of the natural and cultural heritage places managed by Parks Canada. They also provide specialist communications and public relations analysis, advice and services to Mount Revelstoke and Glacier national parks management and staff including writing and editing; media relations; social media and web content development; event planning and co-ordination; stakeholder relations and engagement; public outreach; and photography and video work, including editing.

This position is located in Revelstoke, BC. Remote work is not available.
Intent of the process
The immediate need is to fill one full-time temporary position of 6 months, with the possibility of extension.
This process may be used to create a list of qualified candidates to staff similar positions with various tenures, security levels or linguistic requirements in same or other parts of the country.

• Possession and maintenance of a valid Class 5 driver's license (or provincial equivalent).
• Willingness to work irregular hours, overtime, weekends and/or statutory holidays and provincial/territorial holidays, when required;
• Willingness to wear a Parks Canada uniform when required;
• Willingness to work and/or travel in varied terrain, weather conditions, isolated locations and by various means of transportation.

Your application must clearly explain how you meet the following
Graduation with a diploma or degree from a recognized college or university with specialization in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism or other discipline relevant to the position OR an acceptable combination of education, training and experience.

Class 5 driver’s license or provincial equivalent
EXPERIENCE
EX1: Experience writing and editing communications products such as news releases, newsletters, blogs, web content, social media content, speaking points, briefing notes, response letters, speeches/speaking notes, and backgrounders.
EX2: Experience researching, developing, and delivering on communication strategies and plans related to public communications and media relations.
EX3: Experience providing strategic and operational communications and media relations advice to management.
EX4: Experience participating in and leading cross-functional project teams and working groups developing communications/public relations initiatives.
EX5: Experience working with and developing relationships with media in Canada.

KNOWLEDGE
K1: Knowledge of Parks Canada, its mandate, corporate orientation, objectives and programs.
K2: Knowledge of a broad spectrum of communication tools and techniques including planning and delivery.
K3: Knowledge of external issues and trends that have an impact on public relations and communications.
ABILITIES
A1: Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
A2: Ability to analyze documents/reports, assess the communications implications and make recommendations.
A3: Ability to manage conflicting priorities, to multi-task and to work under time-sensitive conditions.
A4: Ability to liaise with other government departments and agencies, including Indigenous governments, non-government organizations, and stakeholders to plan, develop, articulate and coordinate/facilitate communications initiatives.
