About the position

Duties
A Detachment Services Assistant provides administrative and operational support services for police officers and other employees at a Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) detachment. This position also provides front counter and telephone assistance, services and information to the general public.
Intent of the process
The intent of this process is to staff one (1) full-time term position for approximately one year in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. A qualified pool of candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar positions on an indeterminate, term or acting basis. The pool could be used to staff assignments, secondments, deployments, or casual opportunities.
Should a Civilian Member (CM) be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to the Public Service (PS) category for the CM.

Operational Requirements

• Willingness and ability to work in a police environment, which may involve exposure to unsettling and/or graphic material
• Willingness and ability to work overtime, as required
• Willingness and ability to maintain a valid driver's license, or have personal mobility to the degree normally associated with a driver's license
• Willingness and ability to travel for work and/or training purposes, using various modes of transportation
• Willingness and ability to work in (and relocate to, as applicable) Yellowknife, NT

Successful completion of two years of secondary school, or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

• Experience providing records management services, such as indexing, cross-referencing, filing, retrieving, retaining, archiving and/or destroying data.
• Experience working in a law enforcement and/or legal environment.
• Experience transcribing statements from audio cassettes or digital media.
• Training and/or experience in providing financial support services, such as the collection and recording of monies received, verifying supplier invoices, and preparing invoices.
