About the position

Duties
The typical duties Avionics Systems Engineer can provide include:
▶ Detail design of the installation and integration of avionics equipment to provide customized solutions for a wide variety of aircraft operational requirements.
▶ Provide expert technical guidance for aircraft systems, modifications, new project proposals and aircraft in-service issues.
▶ Complete analysis, test plans, tests, documentation and other tasks as required for certification approvals.
▶ Lead and manage a variety of large and small avionics integration projects, provide cost estimates and project schedules; support or lead the avionics and electrical side of multi-disciplinary projects.
Work environment
Position is located within Aircraft Services Directorate HQ located at the Ottawa International Airport (200 Comet Private). Free parking is available.
The work is in the office to support modifications, upgrades, maintenance and operations of aircraft located on site. Work also supports an aircraft fleet flying from bases across Canada.
Be part of a multi-disciplinary engineering team supporting a mix of civilian, military, fixed and rotary wing aircraft performing a wide variety of roles requiring specialized equipment and modifications in electrical and avionics systems. Aircraft Services Directorate is a Design Approval Organization and an Aircraft Maintenance Organization and the operator of Canadian Coast Guard aircraft and other government and military aircraft.

Possess a valid passport.
Available and willing to work overtime on short notice during the week or on weekends.
Available and willing to travel on occasion within North America, as well as internationally, if and when required.
Able to access aircraft to obtain dimensions and to test fit mock-ups require the climbing of scaffolds, ladders, and maintenance stands, working on or under aircraft that are on jacks, jigs or slings and working in confined spaces.
Strict adherence to the Department of National Defence and Canadian Forces Code of Values and Ethics, Values and Ethics Code for the Public Sector, Directive on Conflict of Interest, and Defence Administrative Orders and Directives (DAOD) 7021-1, Conflict of Interest.

ED1: Graduation with a degree from a recognized university in aeronautical engineering, aerospace engineering, or an engineering specialty relevant to the duties of the position.
OR
OC1: Eligibility for certification as a professional engineer in Canada with specialization in an engineering specialty relevant to the position.

EX1: Experience** in the design approval and certification of aeronautical products.
EX2: Experience** in troubleshooting, including identification, evaluation and rectification, of in-service airworthiness problems.
EX3: Significant* experience in the design, development, integration, testing, or certification of Aircraft Avionics and Electrical Wiring Systems (AWM 523/525/527/529) or Aircraft Parts, Equipment, and Installation (AWM 537/551).
*Significant is defined as having 3 or more years of engineering experience whilst progressively acquiring increased responsibilities related to engineering in the aerospace industry.
** Experience is defined as having 1 or more years of engineering experience whilst progressively acquiring increased responsibilities related to engineering in the aerospace industry.

AOC1: Delegation of authority for airworthiness approval of aircraft avionics and electrical systems under Section 4.3(1) of the Aeronautics Act, or equivalent under another airworthiness authority (for example military).
AOC2: Possess Aircraft Maintenance Engineer License.
AEX1: Experience in installation, maintenance or repair of aircraft avionics and electrical systems.
AEX2: Experience using computerized design and drafting programs such as AutoCAD.
AEX3: Experience using specialized electrical/avionics system design, analysis or related software.
