About the position

Duties
Duties
• Collects and collates data and information from open and closed sources in support of analyst initiatives, portfolios and taskings. Uses expert-level searching and collection techniques appropriate to each data source, compiles data and information using appropriate collation methods. Assists analysts in planning data collection and collation activities, carries out data verification checks and advises and trains others in data collection and collation practices. Applies judgement to determine relevancy of the information collected to a given task and handles vagueness by seeking advice and clarification.
• Conducts open-source research in support of analysts’ and clients’ needs and activities. Uses expert-level searching and capture techniques appropriate to the task. Applies judgement to determine the relevancy of the information collected to a given task. Follows RCMP policy with respect to using the Internet for open-source research and criminal investigations.
• Follows established standard procedures to complete a task. Works to prevent procedural errors and troubleshoots anomalous or erroneous results. Anticipates and addresses the subsequent impact procedural or system errors will have on datasets and resulting outputs. Contributes to the development and modernization of standard operating procedures.
• Cleans/normalizes and prepares data in preparation for review and analysis. Applies automation features (i.e., functions, formulas, macros) to normalize data and advises colleagues on data normalization techniques. Protects the integrity of original datasets that undergo normalization and examines data for errors.
• Produces descriptive statistics, data visualizations and statistical summaries using appropriate software tools.
Work environment
Analyst Support Researchers provide support to RCMP Intelligence Analysts. Duties are varied and include carrying out research, data collection and collation activities, producing statistical summaries, and so on. Experienced Analyst Support Researchers are comfortable working with both qualitative and quantitative data, have a good attention to detail, are able to work under minimal supervision and enjoy a varied workday. This is an anticipatory staffing process, as management is forecasting future employment opportunities in Halifax, Nova Scotia. EDUCATION:
Graduation with a degree* from a recognized post-secondary institution** with acceptable specialization*** in economics, sociology or statistics.
