About the position
DutiesThe Investigative Assistant provides direct support to criminal investigations and performs various duties, including:
• conducting research and name and address checks using various databases and other investigative sources;
• preparing general summaries and documents based on information received in order to respond to requests from investigators assigned to major projects;
• verifying and validating certain information through various internal or external services;
• in support of the Exhibit Manager, analyzing documents to determine their relevance to investigations, establish timelines of events, and identify links;
• maintaining up to date information related to police operations in complex files and investigations.

Intent of the process
The intent of this process is to staff various Investigative Assistant positions within the Royal Canadian Mounted Police’s C Division (Province of Quebec).
A pool of partially or fully qualified candidates may be established to staff similar or identical positions within the RCMP, where the duration (term or indeterminate), security clearance (Enhanced Reliability, Secret or Top Secret) and/or language profile may vary depending on the position.
If a civilian member (CM) is deemed qualified and considered for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to the public service employee (PSE) category for the CM.

EXPERIENCE
Experience in writing a variety of documents such as reports, briefing notes and presentations.
Experience related to judicial or administrative disclosure, including but not limited to the management, organization, documentation, and redaction of information.
Experience using computer software, such as the Microsoft Office suite, for the development of tables, charts, reports, organizational charts, presentations, and/or other similar products.

EDUCATION
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in law, criminology, security and police studies, or any other related field.

EXPERIENCE
Work experience with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).
Experience in handling, managing or disseminating evidence in the course of criminal investigations.
Experience in reviewing judicial documents, such as affidavits, search warrants, arrest warrants, etc.
Experience in developing intelligence profiles and formulating options and recommendations.
Experience in collecting and analyzing information as part of criminal investigations.
Experience in using police databases.
Professional experience in the field of law enforcement.
Experience working with the E&R Major Case Management system and the SGRIN intelligence system.
Experience in managing the exhibits vault and exhibits, such as quality control, tracking movements, and recording information in information systems.
Experience in researching and gathering information from open sources.
KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge of the organizational structure of C Division, including an understanding of the sectors, their respective roles, and their operational responsibilities.
Knowledge of the Criminal Code, the Canada Evidence Act, the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, and the principles governing disclosure.
