About the position
Duties
The team at Point Pelee National Park, is looking for a dedicated individual to oversee the maintenance of the park contributing to the safety and enjoyment of our visitors. The successful candidate will provide general maintenance and semi-skilled repairs to the grounds, buildings, vehicles, facilities, roads, trails, and structures. When appropriate, contracting of more specialized or complex work will be required. This position also requires the performance of physically demanding tasks, such as repetitive lifting of tools and equipment, and on occasion raising equipment in excess of 45 kg.

Willing to perform repetitive, strenuous physical activity
Must be able to lift supplies, tools and equipment such as line trimmers, jerry cans and push lawn mowers.
Willingness to work and/or travel in varied terrain, weather conditions, and by various means of transportation.
Willingness to wear a Parks Canada uniform and recommended personal protective equipment.
Willingness to work irregular hours, overtime, weekends and/or statutory holidays and provincial/territorial holidays, when required.
Willingness to work independently.

🎓Education
ED: A secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training, experience or traditional knowledge relevant to position.

💼Experience
EX1: Significant** experience in the performance of semi-skilled maintenance tasks related to two or more of the following areas: grounds maintenance and landscaping activities, equipment operation and maintenance, carpentry, plumbing, and/or facility & utility maintenance)
EX2: Recent* and significant** experience in the operation, use and maintenance of hand tools and power equipment (e.g. lawn tractors, mowers, chainsaws, tractors, trailers, backhoes, skid steers, and/or ATV’s etc…)
EX3: Experience in supervising the work of others and providing training, orientation and/or assessing performance.
EX4: Experience in developing work plans, cost estimates, specifications, purchase orders, service acquisitions as well as maintaining logs and records.
*Recent experience is defined as gained within the last five (5) years.
**Significant experience is defined as the depth and breadth of experience normally acquired over at least a four (4) year period.

🕮Knowledge
K1: Knowledge in the safe use and maintenance of various gas, mixed fuel, and diesel fueled equipment and machinery;
K2: Knowledge of properly selecting and safely operating a wide range of manual and power tools;
K3: Knowledge and understanding of contract administration, purchasing and request for quotations procedures;
K4: Knowledge of general maintenance tasks for trails, grounds, sanitation and janitorial.
📋 Abilities
A1: Ability to perform semi-skilled construction, maintenance and repairs; basic carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and automotive work;
A2: Ability to read and interpret basic maps, blueprints, and technical drawings;
A3: Ability to use power tools and equipment such as riding lawn mowers, tractors, chainsaws, etc. in a safe manner;
A4: Ability to deliver information to the public;
A5: Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing;
A6: Ability to set priorities and organize workload;
A7: Ability to determine/calculate quantities, time/cost estimates and specifications; record data; and maintain computerized records and logs;
A8: Ability to use basic computer programs (Excel, Word, Outlook, messenger applications, video conferencing etc.).

🎓Asset Education
