About the position
DutiesHere is an overview of the tasks for this position :
Design, review, and analyze the performance and requirements of short-range marine aids to navigation systems. Research, collect, and analyze data related to waterway characteristics, user information and environmental factors. Evaluate navigational risks and their potential impact on mariner safety and the marine environment. Study, analyze, and recommend solutions or risk mitigation measures regarding aids to navigation system design performance and navigational hazards; provide recommendations to management in accordance with national directives and international standards.
The candidate may be required to participate in the coordination of seasonal buoy tending activity programs and occasionally travel to assess the effectiveness, performance, and relevance of one or more aids to navigation systems.
Work in collaboration with various internal and external stakeholders such as the CCG Regional Operations Centre (ROC)/Fleet, Integrated Technical Services (ITS), or Transport Canada (TC) to recommend the replacement or maintenance of aids to navigation components, in accordance with their associated lifecycle management and technical specifications.
Update and monitor the inventory and operational status of aids to navigation using the Aids to Navigation Program Information System (SIPA) database. Participate in the development and evaluation of various regional directives and procedures for the Aids to Navigation program.

The Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) is a special operating agency within the Department of National Defence (DND). The CCG proudly serves 243,000 kilometers of Canada’s vast and rugged coastline, the longest coastline of any given country, and is one of the few federal agencies that provides direct, front-line services 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
Intent of the process
The purpose of this process is to create a pool of candidates to be used to fill various current and future vacancies for Officers, Aids to navigation within the Navigational Programs. A pool of partially or fully qualified candidates will be established and may be used to staff identical or similar positions within the Canadian Coast Guard, with employment durations, language requirements, and work locations that will vary depending on the needs of the positions to be filled.

• Able and willing to work overtime.

• Wear and maintain a uniform as per CCG’s standards, inclusive of CSA approved Safety Footwear, and maintain job related personal protective equipment.
• Strict adherence to the Department of National Defence and Canadian Forces Code of Values and Ethics, Values and Ethics Code for the Public Sector, Directive on Conflict of Interest, and Defence Administrative Orders and Directives (DAOD) 7021-1, Conflict of Interest.
• Ability to work aboard various Canadian Coast Guard assets, including helicopters, small craft, and large vessels.
• Possession of a valid, unrestricted driver's license in good standing for a passenger vehicle (Class 5 (Qc), Class G (On) or equivalent).
