About the position
Duties
This position is in a fast pace operational environment, working directly in the divisions of the RCMP engaging with employees, supervisors, occupational health personnel and other stakeholders to:
🤝 Direct and record disability case management activities (e.g. early intervention, case management, return-to-work planning);
🤝 Assess any barriers and implement strategies to a successful and timely return-to-work;
🤝 Promote a better understanding of the Disability Management and Accommodation program within the division and/or detachment;
🤝 Provide guidance and support to ill, injured or disabled members and their supervisors;
🤝 Regularly monitor accommodation (due to disability) and return to work plans in the Division to ensure work-related needs are properly addressed.
Work environmentThe goal of RCMP Disability Management Program is to ensure that ill or injured members can remain at, or return to work and regain an optimal level of health and functioning as quickly as possible, without risk to their health, or to the health of others and the public. To attain maximum performance in the management of disability cases, the RCMP promotes member injury/illness recovery and health through early intervention; active case management; accommodation, including graduated return to work; and, provision of benefits and services. The Framework is built on accepted best practices in disability management, including early intervention, case management and return-to-work planning. It is designed to ensure consistency in approach within and across all divisions and detachments.
A Disability Management Advisor (DMA) is the central point of contact working with members, supervisors, the RCMP Occupational Health Team and other stakeholders to direct and record case management activities. It also outlines the roles and responsibilities of those involved in the disability management and accommodation process. It is solely an administrative position that does not involve hands on therapeutic care.
We offer flexible work arrangements including a hybrid work schedule (with a 4-day mandatory work in the office). Remote work is not available. We are located in Edmonton, Alberta or Calgary, Alberta.
Intent of the process
The intent of this process is to staff one (1) full-time permanent/indeterminate position in Edmonton or Calgary, Alberta.
A qualified pool of candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar positions on an indeterminate, term or acting basis. The pool could be used to staff assignments, secondments, deployments, or casual opportunities.
Should a Civilian Member (CM) be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to the Public Service (PS) category for the CM. Information regarding the CM appointment will be sent to all applicable candidates who are within the area of selection and participated in the advertised process.
Should a Public Service (PS) employee be found qualified and selected for appointment, notification regarding the PS appointment will be posted accordingly on www.jobs.gc.ca.

You need (essential for the job)
Your application must clearly explain how you meet the following
Graduation with a degree in Social Sciences or Health Sciences from a recognized post-secondary institution OR an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
Definition of acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience: acceptable combination of post-secondary education/credentials in disability management, occupational health or a relevant field; as well as a minimum of 5 years’ experience in comprehensive disability case management.

EX1 – Recent** and significant* experience in the management of files / cases in the following programs within the public or private sector: return-to-work program or disability management program
EX2 – Recent** and significant experience* of the formulation of advice to managers (all levels) and employees on the application of policies related to the return-to-work program or disability management program
EX3 - Experience in the preparation of presentations, briefing notes or reports to senior management
*"Significant" experience is defined as experience associated with having performed a broad range of related activities which could normally be acquired over a period of approximately 2 years.
**"Recent" experience is defined as experience associated with having performed this function in the past 5 years.
