The Ontario Operational Communication Centre (OCC) is the main hub for all things related to police dispatching, security monitoring, day-to-day officer operations, and connection between resources. This means that we take care of 9-1-1 calls in relation to our jurisdictions, provide assistance to the public and our officers on emergency and non-emergency matters, and much more. We are the 24/7 communications support the National Capital Region, as well as the entirety of Ontario.
What will you be doing?
As a telecommunications operator, you will be responsible for carrying out the daily operational duties of the OCC which can vary from regular police dispatching, to answering emergency and non-emergency calls and creating files, to status keeping officers on the road and providing them with anything they may need. You will have access to various systems, applications and databases that will provide a variety of information, and will communicate with many internal (within RCMP) and external (outside RCMP) partners.

Intent of the process
The intent of the process is to establish a pool of qualified applicants for the training program.
Candidates who are qualified at the TCO-01 (trainee) level and who are selected for the Telecommunications Operator Training Program will be appointed to a DETERMINATE (initial 7 months term) appointment at the TCO-01 group and level.
Only the TCO-01 (trainee) who successfully complete the training program* will be placed in a pool of qualified TCO-02 which may be used to appoint determinately (term) or indeterminately (permanent)at the TCO-02 group and level.
*Upon initial appointment as a Police Dispatcher Trainee, continued employment is conditional upon successful completion of classroom training, field coaching, simulation exams and proficiency evaluations for call-taking and dispatching.
Should a Civilian Member (CM) be found qualified and selected for appointment prior to May 21, 2020 (deeming date), the appointment will not result in a change of status to the Public Service (PS) category for the CM. Furthermore, CM staffing transactions resulting from this process will be administered in accordance with the Onboarding Transition Phase until deeming day.
Pre-placement and periodic occupational health evaluations will be conducted in accordance with the Medical Profile Standard.
• For Public Service Employees, evaluations will be administered by Health Canada or its designate, in accordance with the Occupational Health Evaluation Guide (OHEG).

2. We would like to advise candidates that the selection process can take as long as 6 to 12 months.
3. TYPING SKILLS : You must have the "Ability to type/keyboard 40 w.p.m. with less than 5% error rate". We strongly recommend that you practice your typing skills prior to coming to the RCMP Public Safety Communications Pre-Employment Test-CritiCall, as this criteria is a Pass or Fail. Should you not obtain the minimum score, you will be eliminated from the process.
Other Information:
A computer exam/typing test will be administered (CritiCall).
A written examination will be administered.
An interview will be administered.
A medical will be required (this may take up to 6-12 months for completion).
A security investigation will be launched for a RCMP Top secret security clearance (this may take up to 6-12 months for completion).
Candidates must meet all the essential qualifications to be appointed to a position and may be required to meet the asset qualifications depending on the requirements of the specific position being staffed.
