About the position

Duties
We are looking for a passionate candidate to undertake a PhD project focused on the geology of alkaline complexes and niobium mineralization. The project will be centered on the Saint Honoré alkaline complex in Québec. This site, mined for niobium, offers exceptional access to the processes that led to the formation of this mineralization.
The main objective of the project is to better understand the role played by the syenitic envelope of the Saint Honoré complex in the genesis of Nb mineralization. To achieve this, the selected student will acquire new petrographic, mineralogical, geochemical, isotopic, and geochronological data from the outer zone of the complex, which includes several distinct syenitic units. The study will focus on characterizing the relationships among these units and their connection to the carbonatite core, in order to clarify their influence on niobium concentration.
This project is part of the Targeted Geoscience Initiative (TGI 7) and will be conducted in collaboration with UQAC, the Ministère des Ressources naturelles et des Forêts du Québec, and the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (Toulouse, France). The results will contribute to refining ore genesis models for carbonatite magmatic systems. In addition, the selected student will develop highly sought after expertise in critical and strategic minerals associated with carbonatites.
Intent of the process
The intention is to staff one student position for the completion of a PhD.
