About the position

Duties
At FINTRAC, Security Officers play a key role delivering front-line safety and security services in support of the Centre’s operations. Security Officers ensure the safety and security of staff and ensures the continued protection of the Centre’s assets against loss, damage and/or compromise.
As a Security Officer, you will be called upon to provide many services such as:
• Working as part of a rotational team in an Operations Centre;
• Registering persons upon arrival and departure and providing escorts;
• Conducting regular patrols to ensure the continued security of the facility;
• Providing client service to staff and the public by answering inquiries and proving responses to calls;
• Monitoring, reporting and taking appropriate actions to ensure security activities align with departmental security policies, and legal obligations;
• Providing first responses (related to medical, fire and any other emergencies), and protective services (related to the prevention and response to workplace violence) and liaising with local authorities as required; and
• Supporting the departmental security program as required.

📍 This position requires full onsite presence at our headquarters located in downtown Ottawa (234 Laurier Avenue West, Ottawa, Ontario) (5 days per week).
Intent of the process
The intent of this process is to fill one (1) position with a term (an Interchange could be considered) and use this process to staff similar term and/or indeterminate positions, with various language requirements, that may become available.

Conditions of employment

Top Secret security clearance - You must be a Canadian Citizen and eligible for a Top Secret security clearance to FINTRAC's standards.
FINTRAC’s process includes a suitability interview, a credit and financial check, fingerprinting, a background investigation covering at least the last 10 years, as well as other assessments necessary to determine a candidate’s suitability for work at FINTRAC.
Candidates must be able to produce sufficient records to any period of time spent outside of Canada and may be subject to further assessment.
As needed, candidates may be required to submit security documentation and may be subject to security investigations at any phase of the selection process.
Suitability is an on-going condition of employment at FINTRAC and must be maintained.

Operational Requirements

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Willingness and ability to travel occasionally.
• Willingness and ability to work overtime as and when required, with short notice.
• Willingness to work extended shifts on a rotational basis, which may include days, evenings, nights, weekends and/or holidays.

EDUCATION:
ED1 - A secondary school (high school) diploma or an acceptable combination* of education, training and relevant experience.
(*) An acceptable combination consists of three (3) years of education, training and/or work experience in a related field.

EXPERIENCE:
E1 - Experience in interpreting and applying GoC or departmental policy instruments and procedures;
E2 - Experience summarizing information to identify and resolve security risks and/or issues; and
E3 - Experience in providing client services *.
* Client services include but are not limited to: answering client calls or emails, providing information and assisting clients, planning and organizing meetings or teleconferences, serving the public, etc.
