About the position
Duties
-Bioinformatics related to disease resistance and agronomic trait mapping;
-DNA isolation from plant tissue;
-Molecular marker design, including transitioning the program to Kompetitive Allele Specific PCR (KASP) marker assays;
-Outdoor field work and notetaking;
-Greenhouse and growth cabinet plant maintenance; and
-Various other program related activities.
Intent of the process
The immediate need is to staff one position for a 2-year term, full-time tenure. A pool of qualified and partially qualified candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar positions with various employment tenures.

-Possession of a valid, G2 or G class Ontario driver’s license, or other provincial/territorial equivalency.
-Known allergies must be controlled through the use of personal protective equipment and/or medication and must not impinge upon the duties to be performed.
-With appropriate safety precautions in place, able and willing to work in laboratory, greenhouse, field and/or animal rearing facility environments for extended periods at a time; able and willing to work outdoors under various weather conditions and under normal safety precautions able and willing to work with hazardous materials.

Your application must clearly explain how you meet the following
Education:
Bachelor of Science or post-graduate degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in one of the following fields:
Microbiology
Plant Biology
Biology
or a related agricultural program

Experience:
Experience planning and conducting laboratory or field experiments related to pulse research.
Experience contributing to experimental design related to pulse research.
Experience completing plant pathology testing and implementing molecular marker assays related to pulse research.
Applied / assessed at a later date
Knowledge of theories, practices and principles of pulse breeding.

Preference
Preference will be given to veterans first, followed by Canadian citizens and permanent residents, with the exception of jobs located in Nunavut or Yukon.
