About the position

Duties
Reporting directly to the Director of Research, Development and Technology (RDT), the Associate Director RDT manages the day-to-day activities of their Centre to support agriculture and agri-food systems within their ecozone and at the national level. The Associate Director manages scientists, other science professionals, and support staff; develops and executes annual business plans for the Centre, including human resources, financial, equipment, and communications plans aligned with the Branch’s strategic and business plans; brokers local and regional collaboration and partnerships; and, under the leadership of the Director RDT, contributes to knowledge and technology transfer activities as well as to the career development and peer review processes for researchers and other agricultural science professionals at their Centre of responsibility.
Intent of the process
Immediate need: 1 full-time permanent position.
A pool of qualified and partially qualified candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar positions with various tenures.
In the event that an employee of the public service is qualified through this process, and there is a temporary need, they may be considered for acting, deployment, assignment or secondment opportunities.

Education:
Graduation with an acceptable doctoral degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a field of the natural sciences related to the duties of the position or the employer-approved alternative*.
The employer-approved alternative for the SE classification is an acceptable master’s or bachelor’s degree coupled with acceptable research, training and experience. The degree must be from a recognized post-secondary institution and in scientific fields and specialties related to the duties of the position. The training and experience must clearly demonstrate the ability to do personal research of doctoral degree calibre.
At a later stage in the selection process, you will be required to provide documentation verifying your educational credentials.

Experience:
Experience in leading or managing science-based activities.
Experience in managing human and financial resources.
Experience in briefing and providing science management advice to senior leadership (for example, Director, Director General, Vice-President or higher).
Experience in building and maintaining relationships with governments, industry, indigenous communities or academia.

Knowledge:
Knowledge of national and international drivers for Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) research priorities.
Knowledge of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada’s science priorities.
Knowledge of AAFC partnerships with industry stakeholders, academia, government and non-government organizations.
