About the position

Duties
As part of our Assets team in Haines Junction you will support the maintenance and repair of all built and rolling assets in the park.
The work will include performing routine maintenance procedures while troubleshooting and repairing building operating systems and equipment, grounds keeping, water hauling, supply runs to Whitehorse, routine inspections, equipment repair and fleet management.
In this position, you will be working with a multi-disciplinary team in which you have the opportunity to work as part of a team and individually perform preventative maintenance tasks and repairs under the supervision of the Technical Services Officer. You will be required on occasion to travel in the backcountry via truck, ATV, Boat, or helicopter with the possibility of overnights in the field.
The selected candidate may also be asked to provide support or supervision to the trail maintenance team.

Intent of the process
This process is intended to staff one (1) vacant Maintenance Worker III term position for the 2026 operational season, as of April 2026. The selected candidate may be asked to provide support or supervision to the trail maintenance team.
Target Assessment dates: Mid-March 2026
This process may be used to create a list of qualified candidates to staff similar positions with various tenures, security levels or linguistic requirements in same or other parts of the country.

Conditions of employment

• Obtain and maintain a Reliability Status security clearance
• Possess and maintain a valid Yukon class 5 Drivers’ Licence or equivalent.
• Willingness to wear a Parks Canada uniform and prescribed protective equipment
• This position is designated as safety sensitive, and the incumbent will be required to comply with the Agency’s zero tolerance policy and report fit for duty
• Must undergo and pass pre-placement and periodic medical checks (when position is located in an area classed as isolated and remote, a pre-employment medical examination of an individual and his/her dependants may be required)

Operational Requirements

• Willingness and ability to perform strenuous physical activity, heavy lifting, as well as working in cramped and awkward positions on occasion.
• Willingness and ability to successfully complete safety courses and training, as required (eg: Standard First Aid, Fall Arrest, WHMIS, CLC training, etc.).
• Willingness and ability to use appropriate safety equipment and protective equipment at all times in the performance of duties.
• Willingness to work irregular hours, overtime, weekends and/or statutory holidays and provincial/territorial holidays, as required
• Willingness to work and/or travel in varied terrain, weather conditions, isolated locations and by various means of transportation
ASSETS
• Willingness and ability to operate safely in a wilderness backcountry environment for extended periods.
• Willingness and ability to hike long distances, including multi-day hikes
• Willingness and ability to work and/or travel off roads and paths, with limited communication and emergency response capacity, in various meteorological and environmental conditions (e.g., cold, hot, rain, biting insects, noxious weeds, uneven terrain)

• Experience in the safe and appropriate use and maintenance of power and hand tools
• Experience in the operation and basic preventative maintenance of vehicles and equipment such as small loaders, lawn tractors and utility vehicles
• Experience operating trucks with trailers, ATVs and/or skid steer

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

ASSET EXPERIENCE
• Experience working in and delivering services to a northern and/or isolated community;
• Experience in supervising staff and leading diverse teams (hiring, scheduling, work planning, occupational health and safety, and performance management);
• Experience living and/or working in outdoor field conditions (i.e., travelling on the land, field/backcountry/trip guiding).
ASSET KNOWLEDGE
• Knowledge of safe practices in the use and maintenance of hand and power tools both portable and stationary.
• General construction knowledge in the maintenance and repair of building structures.
ASSET ABILITIES
• Ability to identify potentially hazardous situations and take appropriate action to maintain a safe environment.
• Ability to conduct and report on asset inspections and inventories.
