DutiesLicensed Practical Nurses work in health clinics located within our federal institutions. Practical Nurses provide care specializing in services that reflect the needs of a diverse patient population. As regulated (licenced) providers, Practical nurses practice in accordance with professional standards and departmental/ institutional policy. Care may include services targeted at:

Work environmentThe Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) hires skilled Practical Nurses from all backgrounds and areas of expertise. With the current health challenges facing our offender population, there is a need to recruit more Practical Nurses into our organization.
Practical Nurses at CSC play an important role in providing quality care to approximately 15,000 offenders incarcerated in Canada's federal institutions, they work in accredited facilities. In their daily work, Practical Nurses in CSC care for offenders by contributing to the prevention, care, treatment, and support of acute and chronic physical and mental health conditions. The care provided by Practical Nurses assists in maintaining the safety of Canadians by helping to improve offender health and reintegration into the community. CSC Practical Nurses provide a wide range of clinical services that can be found in a community setting, while focusing on services that reflect the needs of the offender population.
Intent of the process
📌 The selection process is intended to create an inventory of qualified candidates to support staffing needs across the Prairie Region and institutions. CSC will review applications received on a regular basis and contact applicants based on the needs of the institutions. It is therefore important that you indicate all the locations where you want to work.

The candidate qualified pool resulting from this inventory may be used to staff positions on a permanent/indeterminate (anticipatory), temporary/term (anticipatory), or casual basis. Casual work is offered for a fixed duration not exceeding 90 working days in a calendar year.

🔸 Valid CPR/AED level Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Valid CPR/AED for Health Care Providers (HCP) is also acceptable. Certification must be obtained in person.

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION:
🔸 Relevant certification(s) or additional training within the Licensed Practical Nurse scope of practice (e.g., Gerontology Certified; Medical–Surgical Certified; mental health; community health; wound care; IV therapy; immunization; or other recognized specialty education)
EXPERIENCE:
🔸 Experience working with offenders in a correctional environment
🔸 Experience providing nursing care in specialized services or populations (e.g., women’s health, sexual health, reproductive health, or gender-informed care)
🔸 Experience in nursing in one or more of the following areas: Immunizations; Infectious diseases screening; Health promotion programs; In a rural or remote area; In a forensic setting
🔸 Experience providing nursing intervention or therapeutic intervention to patients suffering from a variety of mental illnesses or psycho-social difficulties
🔸 Experience in Community Health Nursing, Public Health Nursing or Occupational Health
🔸 Experience applying relevant legislation, policies, and professional standards in day-to-day nursing care
🔸 Experience supporting continuous quality improvement activities within a healthcare setting
