About the position
Duties
As a Maintenance Worker III – Marmot Pit Operator, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operation and management of the Marmot Pit site. Duties include: operating heavy equipment (e.g., front-end loaders) to move and place materials in accordance with the pit restoration/usage plan; inspecting incoming loads from third-party users for contaminated or unacceptable materials; verifying that all pit users hold proper approvals and authorizations before allowing material to be dumped; ensuring materials are deposited in designated locations; managing access to the pit to ensure only authorized users are on site at all times; effectively resolving conflicts between pit users and managing situations where contractors are denied use due to material contamination; and maintaining site logs and records. This position requires working independently with minimal supervision in an outdoor environment from approximately April to November, with the possibility of extension.

The Jasper Field Unit is comprised of Jasper National Park and Fort St. James National Historic Site (NHS), with staff located in Jasper, Alberta and Fort St. James, British Columbia. The Field Unit Superintendent is located in Jasper. In addition to Fort St. James NHS, the Field Unit is also responsible for five other national historic sites located within Jasper National Park: The Jasper Park Information Centre NHS, Athabasca Pass NHS, Yellowhead Pass NHS, Jasper House NHS and the Maligne Lake Chalet and Guest House NHS.

Operational Requirements
OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
• You must be willing to work overtime.
• You will be required to work shift-work, and/or weekends, and/or statutory holidays and provincial/territorial holidays as scheduled by your delegated manager. Compensation will be as prescribed in the Terms and Conditions of Employment applicable to you.
• You must be willing to work and travel in a variety of terrains and weather conditions in the performance of the duties.
• You may be required to undergo pre-placement and/or periodic medical evaluations
• You will be required to work in adverse weather conditions.
• You will be required to wear a uniform while performing your duties. In this case, Parks Canada will provide you with the uniforms you require in accordance with the Parks Canada Uniform Policy

EDUCATION:
Completion of secondary school or an acceptable combination of education, training, and experience relevant to general maintenance, material handling, and/or equipment operation.

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION:
-Valid Class 5 Driver’s License
EXPERIENCE:
EX1: Experience in operating heavy equipment such as front-end loaders, skid steers, or similar machinery;
EX2: Experience in performing general maintenance, site management, or material handling duties.

K1: Knowledge of equipment operation and maintenance, including loaders and similar machinery;
K2: Knowledge of material handling, identification, and inspection procedures, including the ability to identify contaminated or unacceptable materials;
K3: Knowledge of site access control procedures and the ability to verify approvals and authorizations;
K4: Knowledge of occupational health and safety practices related to equipment operation and outdoor work environments;
K5: Knowledge of pit/quarry operations, land restoration practices, or material stockpile management.
ABILITIES:
A1: Ability to operate and maintain loaders and similar heavy equipment, including basic troubleshooting;
A2: Ability to inspect incoming materials and identify contaminated or unacceptable loads;
A3: Ability to plan, organize, and complete assigned work independently with minimal supervision;
A4: Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, contractors, and third-party site users, including the ability to manage conflicts and enforce site rules.
