About the position

Duties
The work locations of a Visitor Services Attendant include Cedar Spring Campground and/or outlying docks and campgrounds on Beausoleil Island. The Visitor Services Attendant contributes to an exceptional visitor experience by performing visitor services, revenue collection, and routine facility cleaning at entrance gateways, visitor centres, campgrounds, kiosks, and on park grounds. Key responsibilities include:
• Provide information and orientation on facilities, services, programs, regulations, safety, and protection objectives (in person, by phone, electronically).
• Schedule group and individual visits; respond to inquiries and complaints; advise on park services, nearby amenities, and other Parks Canada sites.
• Register visitors; process fees, permits, refunds, and sales; assign campsites; operate point of sale and reservation systems.
• Maintain cash controls, records, inventory, statistics, sales reports, and deposits.
• Clean and upkeep facilities and grounds; report maintenance and supply needs.
• Monitor conditions to identify incidents, inappropriate activities, or resource issues; document and report; support corrective measures.
• Apply safety and security procedures to safeguard visitors, cash, facilities, artifacts, and equipment.
• Provide basic assistance or first aid when required.
• Demonstrate tasks and safe work practices to volunteers or students.
• Suggest improvements to visitor services.
Some positions may require operating Parks Canada vessels.
A second language evaluation will be required for bilingual positions

Georgian Bay Islands National Park is located in the heart of Ontario cottage country at the southern gateway to the world’s largest freshwater archipelago, the 30,000 islands. Intent of the process
This process may be used to staff one bilingual position that includes supervisory responsibilities. It may also be used to establish a pool of qualified candidates to staff similar Visitor Services Attendant positions with various tenures, security levels, language requirements, locations, and without supervisory responsibilities.

Operational Requirements

The position will require the incumbent to:
• Stand for extended periods (50-75% of the day)
• Be exposed to variable weather conditions when moving between facilities and working outdoors
• Be exposed to stress when responding to fluctuating, unpredictable visitor demands and requirements
• Wear a Parks Canada uniform and abide uniform policy
• Work shift work, and/or evenings, and/or weekends and/or statutory holidays and/or provincial/territorial holidays
• Willingness to obtain and maintain First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification, Occupational Health and Safety Training, Workplace Hazardous Material Information System training and Quality Visitor Experience Training
• Willingness to obtain MEDA3 and SVOP vessel operating certifications
• Travel for work and/or training purposes

EDUCATION:
A secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience.

EXPERIENCE:
• Experience interacting with the public in a customer service or visitor services role, such as helping guests with information needs, orienting visitors to facilities, explaining rules or safety considerations, or supporting guests during high-volume periods
• Experience meeting public needs, resolving complaints, and identifying solutions
• Experience working collaboratively with a team, including coordinating tasks with coworkers, sharing information, supporting colleagues during busy periods, or contributing to a positive work environment.

• Ability to communicate effectively and professionally
• Ability to manage a variety of routine tasks accurately in a public facing operational setting.
• Ability to operate point-of-sale, reservation systems, or related software.
• Ability to remain attentive to surroundings and recognize when situations require response or follow up.
• Ability to balance administrative, physical, and service related duties throughout the workday in a fast-paced environment.

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION:
• Pleasure Craft Operator Card; MED A3 and/or SVOP certification.
EXPERIENCE:
• Experience leading or directing work (e.g., assigning tasks, providing instruction, monitoring progress, motivating staff).
• Experience boating and operating powered vessels.
KNOWLEDGE:
• Knowledge of visitor services operations, programs, and procedures in a park or heritage setting is an asset
