About the position

Duties
Under the direction of a Deputy Superintendent Maritime Search and Rescue and/or a Canadian Coast Guard Senior Search and Rescue Program Officer, this position carries out emergency Search and Rescue response duties in the marine environment as part of the Canadian Coast Guard’s federal mandate. This includes search and rescue training, liaison, exercising and response activities in the field, maintaining equipment, vessels and vehicles, and carrying out administrative duties at the headquarters area.

Operational Requirements

• Travel (by motor vehicle/air/sea) is frequent, including trips lasting more than 24 hours.
• Work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends.
• Work in adverse marine environments, including rough seas, confined spaces, and extreme weather.
• Perform physically demanding SAR training tasks, including lifting and extricating individuals in simulated rescue scenarios.

• Experience providing operational training, briefings, or presentations.
• Experience in Marine search and rescue. Other emergency response operations may be considered.
• Experience designing, coordinating, and/or evaluating Emergency Response training and exercises.
• Experience in Small Vessel Operations.

Post-secondary diploma related to emergency management, marine operations, or adult education.

Occupational Certification
• Marine Certificate of Competency (Master Limited 60 Ton or higher / Fourth-Class Engineer or higher)
• Instructor-level certifications in first aid, exercise development, or vessel operations. Can also include Instructional Techniques Certificate
• Rescue Specialist Qualifications
• Marine Emergency Duties Certificate (A3/SDV-BS or higher)
• Small Vessel Operator’s Certificate (SVOP)
• Radio Operator’s Certificate (Maritime) or higher
• Experience conducting risk assessments and implementing safety protocols in marine environments.
• Experience preparing reports and/or technical documents using software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Experience in the development, implementation and application of Maritime Search and Rescue (SAR) procedures.
