About the position
DutiesThis position delivers the Indigenous Awareness Learning Series training initiatives for the Indigenous Support and Awareness Office (ISAO) implemented in response to the Truth and Reconciliation Call to Action #57. This provides an opportunity to create and design your own sessions in a dynamic learning environment.
This position reports to the Manager of the Indigenous Support and Awareness Office.
Work environmentThe Indigenous Support and Awareness Office (ISAO) works to improve relationships with, and benefits for, Indigenous Peoples.
ISAO helps AAFC support Indigenous participation in agriculture by:
•enhancing the recruitment and retention of Indigenous students through the Indigenous Student Recruitment Initiative;
•creating awareness and learning opportunities for federal government employees through the Indigenous Awareness Learning Series;
•providing Indigenous and non-Indigenous AAFC staff with cultural supports that include contact with Elders, Knowledge Keepers and Indigenous community members;
•providing leadership and strategic advice to stakeholders on Indigenous awareness topics, while making recommendations on all aspects of initiative planning, management and delivery issues
•supporting the Indigenous Network Circle;
•providing a cultural gathering and meeting space at the Mikinàk lodge, located on the Central Experimental Farm.
Intent of the process
This process is intended to permanently fill one (1) Learning Advisor position within AAFC’s Indigenous Support and Awareness Office (ISAO).
This position requires Métis Nation knowledge and lived experience. In support of our initiatives to further reconciliation through our departmental Indigenous Learning Series, first consideration will be given to candidates self-declaring as belonging to the Indigenous (Aboriginal) Peoples employment equity group.

• Willingness and ability to work overtime on occasion.
• Willingness and ability to obtain a certification in adult education training, at department time and expense, within three (3) years of being appointed.

Experience:
• Experience developing a Métis Nation awareness learning session.
• Experience delivering training to a live audience in-person or virtually.
• Experience advising management on Red River Métis history, governance, and current priorities.
• Experience working within the Métis Nation Homeland.
