About the position

Duties
Technical Service Officer duties may include project management, supervision and scheduling maintenance activities for a combination of the following: road infrastructure; buildings and structures (contemporary and reproductions); cultural assets; historic landscapes; recreational facilities including campgrounds, day use facilities, beaches, and trails/boardwalks; vehicles and heavy equipment fleets; boats; plaques; public utilities i.e. potable water distribution and treatment systems, wastewater systems, electric power systems, solid waste systems, climate-control systems; radio communications systems and petroleum storage tanks.

✔️Possess and maintain valid Class G driver's license (or equivalent)
✔️Achieve small water operator certification within 4-months of employment
✔️Will be required to undergo and pass pre-placement and periodic medical checks

Operational Requirements

✔️Willingness to wear a Parks Canada uniform and personal protective equipment
✔️Willingness to work irregular hours, overtime, weekends and/or statutory holidays and
provincial/territorial holidays when required
✔️Willingness to work and/or travel in varied terrain, weather conditions, isolated locations and by various means of transportation

You need (essential for the job)

Your application must clearly explain how you meet the following
EDUCATION
Graduation from a post-secondary institute with a technology diploma in a specialty including, but not limited to: architectural, building, construction, civil, electrical, mechanical or structural engineering, or similar,
or
Possess a recognized trade certification within a relevant field or has significant* experience in a management, supervisor or foreman role.
or
A combination of both education and significant* work experience
*Significant experience would be defined as a minimum of 3 years in a property supervisory/management role
** Relevant experience would be defined as a minimum of 2 years in the last 6 years of work experience

EXPERIENCE
✔️Experience drafting a scope of work and detailing specifications for procurements and/or services
✔️ Experience working with multi-discipline trade groups and an understanding of why they need to work together
✔️ Experience working in a team environment and in a collaborative fashion with functions outside your own specialty (such as stakeholders or end users)
✔️ Experience inspecting completed work and assessing deficiencies
✔️ Experience working effectively with diverse contractors, staff and trades groups, including conflict resolution
✔️ Experience in the management of human resources and administration
✔️ Experience with general project documentation and audit requirements
✔️ Experience with team building and staff supervision

✔️ Knowledge of project management and lifecycle principles
✔️Knowledge of small water and wastewater systems and operational requirements
✔️ Knowledge of current codes and standards related to construction
✔️Knowledge of legislation, regulations and policies governing occupational health and safety – specifically construction site and worker safety
✔️Knowledge of basic Asset principles such as Preventative Maintenance, Deferred Work,
Replacement Values, Value Engineering Review (as it relates to lifecycle management), and Condition Assessments
✔️Knowledge of work planning techniques including cost estimating, scheduling, and budgeting

✔️Work experience in a campground setting
✔️Experience managing both water (micro systems, well and lake fed) and wastewater systems (Sewage Lagoons - Level 1)
✔️ Knowledge of services, activities and facilities of Pukaskwa National Park
✔️Knowledge of Indigenous history, culture and heritage of Northwestern Ontario
✔️Knowledge of Asset Management Software Basics or a Work Order-based work program
