About the position

Duties
Operates low-pressure steam boilers.
Performs water tests for open ad closed loop systems to determine hardness, PH, nitrite chloride, biocide levels and adjust chemical feed rates.
Investigates, diagnoses and repairs, maintains, overhauls and/or repairs mechanical systems and equipment.
Takes boilers down for cleaning and inspection. Put boilers back into service.
Operates, maintains, repairs and calibrates the building management control system.
Assists in the implementation of new laboratory projects, major and minor by reviewing drawing, estimated material and participating as a member of the on-site technical support team.

Intent of the process
A pool of qualified candidates will be established. This pool may be used to staff positions with similar qualifications, with various conditions of employment and/or various tenures including term appointments, indeterminate appointments, acting appointments, and/or assignments.

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance - Applicants who have not lived in Canada for the past five (or ten, depending on security level) years may be required to submit a police certificate from each country in which they have lived for six months or more during this period, as well as other documentation required for the security screening process. • Legal status to accept employment for the entire period of employment.
Any of the following conditions of employment may be required for an appointment:
• Willing and available to travel, as required.
• Willing and available to work shifts.
• Willing and available to work irregular hours (e.g., days, nights, weekends, statutory holidays).
• Willing and available to work overtime, as required.
• To have and maintain a valid driver’s license.
• To use in the prescribed circumstances and manner all prescribed safety materials, equipment, devices and clothing.
• To use prescribed and provided respiratory equipment that meets the respiratory program requirements; to undergo fit testing (e.g. may need to be clean-shaven, depending on the respirator design).
• Willing and able to work in environmentally challenging or physically demanding conditions.
• Willing and able to work in environmentally challenging or physically demanding conditions including at heights, on and over water, aboard vessels in adverse weather and varying light conditions.
• Willing and able to carry and wear 20 kg of protective equipment while performing duties.

ESSENTIAL EDUCATION
EEd1 - 5th Class Power Engineer Standardized Certificate

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE
EE1 - *Recent experience operating, maintaining and repair of commercial and/or institutional building system such as boilers, chillers, HVAC systems and compressors.
EE2 - *Recent experience operating a variety of specialized maintenance tools and equipment for the operation, maintenance and repair of building systems and equipment including boiler chemical test kits, gauges, meters and analyzers.
EE3 - *Recent experience in general plumbing including replacing taps and sinks, repairing urinals and toilets.
EE4 - *Recent experience in general carpentry such as measuring, cutting, joining materials. Fitting and installing trim, moulding and hardware.
*Recent experience is defined as the performance of duties for a minimum period of one year within the past three years.

EK1 - Knowledge of basic HVAC system principals (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) and automation.
EK2 - Knowledge of low-pressure steam and hot water producing boilers, auxiliary and associated equipment.
