About the position

Duties
The National Command Centre (NCC), located in Ottawa, Ontario serves as the 24/7/365 strategic communications point for situational awareness of Coast Guard maritime operations. NCC Operations Officers monitor, observe, collect, analyze and report on maritime events to ensure the strategic headquarters is kept informed of: the current status of fleet assets; program delivery; and developing or ongoing incidents. Additionally, officers provide support during major incidents through alerting, coordination and information management.
Work environment
Located at 200 Kent Street in downtown Ottawa, the National Command Centre is ideally situated for active transportation, carpooling, or public transportation. The work is carried out in a secure operations environment with multiple operational tools and networks. The work requires rotational shiftwork including days, nights and weekends and will require sitting for prolonged periods, up to twelve hours, several times a week.
The Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) is a special operating agency within National Defence. We work to ensure the safety of mariners in Canadian waters and protect Canada’s marine environment.

Intent of the process
The intent of this selection process is to appoint two (2) candidates on a temporary basis, in Ottawa, Ontario, and to fill future vacancies at the Canadian Coast Guard’s National Command Centre.

↪ Must be willing and able to work on a variable/rotational work schedule to ensure a 24/7 service coverage, which includes weekends, statutory holidays, and both day and night shifts.
↪ Must be willing and able to wear and maintain a Canadian Coast Guard uniform in accordance with Canadian Coast Guard uniform manual.
↪ Must possess Canadian Citizenship prior to appointment as per the security regulations of the National Command Center.
↪ Strict adherence to the Department of National Defence and Canadian Forces Code of Values and Ethics, Values and Ethics Code for the Public Sector, Directive on Conflict of Interest, and Defence Administrative Orders and Directives (DAOD) 7021-1, Conflict of Interest.

E1: Experience as seagoing personnel in a Government or civilian fleet OR Experience working in a marine environment in a professional shore based operational capacity OR Experience as a watch officer in an Operations Centre dealing with routine operations and crisis management.

E3: Experience gathering and synthesizing information from a variety of sources, conducting analyses, drawing conclusions, and contributing to the development or preparation of documents or intelligence reports.
