Conducts highway/road/street clearing and snow removal using medium and heavy vehicles and equipment (big plows) requiring a Class 3 license with air-brake (class 9) endorsement; operates/controls multiple blades and salting mechanisms; and road maintenance for the Parks Canada Agency.

Intent of the process
This is an anticipatory staffing process for Term employment. Term employment is for a specified period of time (also called "specified period employment" or "determinate employment"), which may be full-time, part-time or seasonal or any combination thereof.
A qualifying pool will be established and may be used to staff similar positions of various tenures (temporary, indeterminate, full-time, part-time) and work locations.

- Must consent to and pass pre-employment medical requirements for Heavy Equipment Operators;
- Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5, Class 8 and Class 3 driver’s license with air brake endorsement for duration of employment;

Operational Requirements

- Must be willing to wear Parks Canada uniform;
- Must be willing to irregular hours, work shift work, holidays, weekends, callback and standby when required.

EDUCATION:
- Successful completion of secondary school and/or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience.

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION:
- Must possess a valid class 03 driver’s license with an air brake (class 09) endorsement;
- Must possess a valid class 8 driver’s license.
- Must possess a valid class 5 driver’s license.
📢: You must provide proof of your educational credentials and occupational certification at the time of interview.
EXPERIENCE:
- Experience in the operation of plow trucks equipped with a scoop, wing and computerized spreader systems (commonly referred to as a flyer).
- Experience in the operation of front-end loader.
- Experience conducting routine equipment inspections and basic heavy equipment operator maintenance.

KNOWLEDGE:
- Knowledge of the operation of heavy equipment;
- Knowledge of highway driving regulations;
- Knowledge of workplace health and safety practices;
ABILITIES:
- Ability to conduct highway/road/street clearing and snow removal using medium and heavy vehicles and equipment requiring a Class 3 license with air-brake endorsement;
- Ability to operate/control multiple blades and salting mechanisms;
- Ability to assess and report on road, visibility and weather conditions and make recommendations on necessary interventions;
- Ability to identify equipment malfunctions, carry out minor maintenance and repairs, determine the cause and to effectively report them.

ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE:
- Extensive experience in the operation of a variety of heavy equipment such as:
----> Grader
----> Rubber tire backhoe
----> Excavator
- Experience in loading, unloading and hauling a tag-a-long trailer.
ADDITIONAL ABILITIES:
- Ability to use and operate various computer programs such as Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
