Who can apply
All students who have legal status to work in Canada. Please indicate in your application the reason for which you are entitled to work in Canada: Canadian citizenship, permanent resident status or work permit.
Individuals are eligible for student employment with Parks Canada under the following circumstances:
• registered as a full time or part-time secondary or post secondary student in an accredited academic program;
• participating in adult education and retraining programs at the secondary level, operated under the authority of an accredited academic institution; and
• should meet the minimum age requirement to be employed in the province or territory of work.
We will be pulling the first round of candidates for the 2026 operational season on January 19, 2026. Should there be vacancies later in the operational season, we will continue to pull from the list.

About the position

Duties
As a member of Cape Breton Highlands National Park’s interpretation team, you will deliver programs and guided hikes to visitors about the park’s natural features, cultural heritage, and significance within the national parks system. Other duties include: assisting with special events; school field trips; computer work using various software; use of audio-visual equipment.
Work environment
Cape Breton Highlands National Park of Canada is currently searching for students during the 2026 visitor season. Parks Canada sites on Cape Breton Island are defining features of Canada and provide communities and visitors with beauty, recreation, and a unique sense of history.

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance - Obtain and maintain Reliability Status.
Maintenance of a valid class 5 Nova Scotia Driver’s License, or other provincial equivalency.

Operational Requirements

• Willingness to wear a Parks Canada uniform when required.
• Willingness to work and/or travel in varied terrain, weather conditions, and various isolated/remote locations.
• Willingness to work varied hours, weekends, holidays, and overtime.
• Willingness to stand/walk/hike for prolonged periods (up to 15km + in a single day) and meet the physical demands of the job.
• Willingness to guide hikes in the evening and after dark.

Experience in working as part of a diverse team.
Experience or knowledge in interpretation techniques (such as storytelling, demonstration, theatre programs or guided walks), performing arts, natural history, biology, geology, ecology, music, and/or cultural history.
Experience in delivering messages/information to groups in face-to-face situations with the purpose of education, engagement, entertainment and/or motivation.
Knowledge of natural history and special features of Cape Breton Highlands National Park.
Proficiency in English and French, or English and Mi’kmaq.
