About the position

Intent of the process
The immediate need is to staff four (4) positions on a term basis, with a linguistic profile of English Essential and an Enhanced Reliability Status security clearance.
A pool of candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar positions within the RCMP on an indeterminate or specified period (including term, acting, or assignment) basis, with various linguistic profiles and various RCMP security clearances.
Should a Civilian Member (CM) be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to the Public Service (PS) category for the CM.

The current classification of the positions is EG-02 / SP-TC-02 however, as a result of a review, the position may be reclassified to a different level. Once the classification of the position is determined, we will have confirmation of the established level for this position. Should the classification not be completed upon completion of the process, we will proceed with appointments of qualified candidates at the EG-02 / SP-TC-02 group and level, and we will proceed with a reclassification of the employee afterwards.

Conditions of employment

CoE1: Valid Medical Profile
Note: Selected candidates must pass a medical examination. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police is responsible for the medical clearance process
CoE2: Enhanced Reliability Status
CoE3: Wear personal protective equipment
CoE4: Willingness to handle and test firearms
CoE5: Willingness to handle ammunitions and ordnance
COE6: Possess a valid driver’s license
All applicants for positions within the Royal Canadian Mounted Police will be subject to a thorough security clearance process which includes an interview wherein questions may include (but not limited to), reference checks, previous employment, on-line activities, credit checks, alcohol and/or drug use.

Operational Requirements

OR1: Willingness to work in a machine shop environment
OR2: Willingness and ability to travel for work and training when required
OR3: Willingness and ability to work overtime, on weekends and variable hours as required to meet operational needs

Your application must clearly explain how you meet the following
Education:
A secondary school diploma or employer-approved alternatives (note 1)
Note:
The employer-approved alternatives to a secondary school diploma are:
A satisfactory score on the Public Service Commission test approved as an alternative to a secondary school diploma; or
An acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
Candidates who already meet both of the following criteria must be accepted as meeting the secondary school diploma requirement:
Candidates who have achieved a satisfactory score on the Public Service Commission test approved as an alternative to a secondary school diploma; and
Candidates who have been appointed or deployed for an indeterminate period to a position in the EG classification.
The opportunity to be assessed by at least one of the two employer-approved alternatives must be offered to candidates who have not previously met the secondary school diploma requirement.
Candidates who were appointed or deployed on an indeterminate basis using an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience meet the secondary school requirement for the EG classification only and must be reassessed for entry to other classifications on the basis of this alternative.

EX1: Experience working with machine shop equipment
EX2: Experience working with word processing and spreadsheet tools (for example, MS Word or MS Excel)

A.OC1: Successful completion of technical courses in machine shop
A.OC2: Licensed Tradesperson from one of the following industrial trades: Machinist, Millwright, Tool & Die Fabricator, Mechanic or Industrial Mechanic
Note: 3rd and 4th year apprentices in these trades will be considered if completion of trade school and trade hours can be documented
A.OC3: Completion of a recognized armourer or gunsmithing course such as: Colorado School of Trades “Gunsmithing, “Centre de formation de la Haute Gatineau (Réparation d’armes à feu) or other
A.EX1: Experience working in mechanical or machining trades
A.EX2: Experience fabricating various tools, jigs, fixtures or gauges
A.EX3: Experience handling or repairing firearms
A.EX4: Extensive* experience in the firearms industry or in the field of firearms technology
*Extensive experience is defined as the depth & breadth of experience normally associated with having performed a broad range of related activities for approximately three (3) years
