About the position

Duties
As the Interpretation Officer/Coordinator you will plan, adapt, develop and deliver interpretive presentations, programs and activities to provide visitors of the park with opportunities to discover, appreciate, learn about and enjoy the place and its natural and/or cultural resources and understand their significance to Canada.
You will participate in staff recruitment; schedule and supervise the work of heritage presenters, students and volunteers; train and orient new and existing staff, students and volunteers on a seasonal basis; ensure appropriate training in the use of equipment and products; and apply the health and safety program in the delivery of interpretive programming.

Obtain and maintain valid class 5 driver’s license or equivalent throughout your employment.

Operational Requirements

Willingness to wear a Parks Canada uniform.
Willingness to work irregular hours, overtime, weekends and/or statutory holidays.
Willingness to work and/or travel in varied terrain, weather conditions, isolated locations and by various means of transportation.
Stand/walk/hike for prolonged periods.
Performs certain physical tasks as per job requirements.
Handle historic weapons or other types of materials.
Work from various work locations.

Your application must clearly explain how you meet the following
EDUCATION:
A minimum of 2 years of post-secondary education or acceptable combination of education, training, experience or traditional knowledge relevant to position.

EXPERIENCE:
Experience in the delivery of cultural and/or natural heritage programs.
Experience in working with stakeholders and partners, including Indigenous groups.
Experience in supervision, mentoring and/or coaching of staff.
Experience in developing and delivering training programs.
Applied / assessed at a later date
KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of personal and non-personal interpretive theory, techniques, planning and evaluation.
Knowledge of Indigenous culture and history.
COMPETENCIES:

Communicates effectively
