About the position
Intent of the process
This position is for Grasslands National Park (GNP) only in Val Marie, SK, and in-person attendance is required.

Reliability Status security clearance - Obtain and maintain Reliability Status Clearance

Obtain and maintain valid class 5 driver’s license or equivalent throughout your employment
Will be required to undergo and pass pre-placement and periodic medical checks, including:
o Occupational Health Assessment for firefighters
o Moderate fitness status as outlined in the Parks Canada Fire Management Workplace Fitness Capacity Test SOP
Possession and maintenance St. John’s Ambulance Standard First Aid Certificate (or equivalent) and CPR certificate
Operational Requirements
OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Willingness to wear a Parks Canada uniform and prescribed protective equipment
Willingness to work and/or travel in varied terrain, weather conditions, isolated locations and by various means of transportation
Willingness to work irregular hours, overtime including stand by shifts, weekends and/or statutory holidays and provincial/territorial holidays, when required
Willingness to obtain certification in the operation of various forms of ground (e.g. all-terrain vehicles) and marine (motorized and non-motorized vessels) as required

EDUCATION:
A secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience

Advanced Wildland Fire Behaviour course
Incident Command System I-300
EXPERIENCE:
• Experience in collecting, manipulating and analyzing spatial and non-spatial data
• Experience in developing and maintaining collaborative partnerships
• Experience in assuming a leadership role in delivering fire management services
Applied / assessed at a later date
KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of fire management strategies and tactics for both wildfire and prescribed fires.
Knowledge and application of the Canadian Forest Fire Danger Rating System

EXPERIENCE:
• Significant experience managing wildfire operations*
*Significant is defined as 10+ years within the last 20 years
KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of climate, geography, vegetation and facilities specific to the location and surrounding area, particularly in the context of fire management
Local knowledge of grasslands
