About the position

Duties
• Analyzes, defines and documents requirements and recommends database management solutions; conducts impact analysis studies under supervision.
• Plans, develops, tests, installs or upgrades database and other data administration systems, development tools, and user productivity tools.
• Provides technical support to the departmental software development teams and for clients.
• Manages and monitors the allocation of hardware resources to all database management systems; and manages user account profiles and ensures database security and availability including database back-up and recovery.
• Conducts the administration, design, review, development, integration, quality assurance, and maintenance of database management; and enforces data security standards.
• Provides technical support in the planning, development, testing, integration, implementation and maintenance of database management solutions and services.
• Supports the development of departmental/agency work processes, standards and guidelines.
• Participates as a member on projects, leads short-term projects and/or reviews/monitors work of contractors.

Intent of the process
The intent of this process is to fill one (1) position on an indeterminate (permanent) basis in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Graduation from a two-year program of study from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in computer science, information technology, information management or another specialty relevant to the position to be staffed.

They must be accepted as having met the minimum education standard whenever this standard is called for when staffing positions in the IT group.

3. At the manager’s discretion, an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience may serve as an alternative to the minimum education stated above. EX1: Experience in Database Administration using Oracle, including tasks such as backup and recovery, monitoring, and patching.
EX2. Experience working with Oracle Multitenant architecture.
EX3: Experience analysing and documenting technical IT problems, proposing IT solutions and providing IT support services.
