About the position

Duties
The Utilities Trades Helper will work as part of a team to assist with general maintenance and repairs within Parks Canada PEI Field Unit.
Duties may include water testing, trouble shooting plumbing, electrical, or HVAC issues, building maintenance, and code compliance.
Work environment
Parks Canada is a federal government agency responsible for the protection and presentation of Canada’s outstanding natural and cultural resources through a system of national parks, national marine conservation areas and national historic sites in all regions of Canada.
PEI National Park of Canada is home to sand dunes, barrier islands and sandspits, beaches, sandstone cliffs, wetlands and forests. These diverse habitats provide a home for a variety of plants and animals, including the threatened Gulf of Saint Lawrence Aster and the endangered Piping Plover. The National Park also features unique cultural resources, notably Green Gables, part of L. M. Montgomery's Cavendish National Historic Site, and Dalvay-by-the-Sea National Historic Site.

Intent of the process
The results of this process will be used to staff one term position from April 20, 2026 to October 16, 2026.
A list of qualified candidates will be established, and may be used to fill similar positions of various tenures (temporary, indeterminate, full-time, part-time) and work locations.

• Willingness to wear a Parks Canada uniform when required
• Willingness to work irregular hours, overtime, weekends and/or statutory holidays, when required

Your application must clearly explain how you meet the following
EDUCATION
• Approved completion of secondary school education (Gr12) or provincial equivalency.

EXPERIENCE
• Ex1: Significant* experience in one or more of the technical functions which may include: commercial building repair/maintenance, water and/or wastewater experience, plumbing, electrical and/or HVAC systems maintenance and operation.
(Significant is defined as 2+years experience)
• Ex2: Experience in the safe use of tools and equipment used in the electrical or plumbing trade.
• Ex3: Experience in building maintenance and code compliance.
ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE
• AEx1: Experience working with Parks Canada PEI Field Unit
Applied / assessed at a later date
KNOWLEDGE
• K1: Knowledge of general maintenance procedures and preventive maintenance practices.
• K2: Knowledge of appropriate use, care and maintenance of equipment.
• K3: Knowledge of electrical and/or plumbing components.
ABILITIES
• A1: Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
• A2: Ability to troubleshoot electrical and/or plumbing components.
