About the position

Duties
The Arctic Marine Response Station is a primary SAR asset, located in Rankin Inlet, NU. Crews operate on a rotating schedule of up to 14 consecutive days of work followed by up to 14 days of rest. We equip our AMRS Crewmembers and Coxswains with essential training and skills to help them succeed in keeping mariners safe. Other duties of this position include:
• Conduct maritime SAR operations on a 24/7 basis by responding and providing assistance to persons and boaters in distress or in need of assistance;
• Supervising Search and Rescue Crew members and managing station operations;
• Participate in training with government and non-government organizations;
• Participate in community education and engagement sessions to increase awareness of SAR services.

Intent of the process
What will this process be used for?
The intent of this process is to fill term positions from approximately early-May to November 2026. There is potential for indeterminate (Permanent) employment sometime in the future.
The employment duration is full-time, under the condition of successful completion of the mandatory training prior to the operational season. Training will commence in Spring of 2026 with the possibility of extension through the winter months. Crewing position assignments will be announced upon successful completion of pre-season training and will be based upon operational requirements.

Work in adverse conditions such as those found in the marine environment.

Experience:
Minimum of 12 months CUMULATIVE experience in a crew (of at least 2) in a maritime Search and Rescue setting (Vessel, Station, or Base) within the last 5 years;
Minimum of 12 months CUMULATIVE experience operating Fast Rescue Craft (FRC), Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat (RHIB) or Rescue vessel within the last 5 years.

Occupational certifications:
Small Vessel Operator Proficiency (SVOP) Course/ Small Craft Training or higher;
Rigid Hull Inflatable Operator Training (RHIOT);
Marine Emergency Duties Certificate (A3) or Small Domestic Vessel – Basic Safety (SDV-BS);
Restricted Radio Operator's Certificate – Maritime Commercial (ROC-MC);
Valid Standard First Aid & CPR/AED level C, or higher.
Knowledge of:
Collision Regulations, the Canada Shipping Act, and the Canada Labour Code;
Procedures for maritime search and rescue operations;
The Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit Principles (IQ).

Experience providing First Aid services to injured persons in a real-life operational setting;
Experience delivering presentations, training, programs or services to/with Indigenous peoples;
Experience using and maintaining a firearm in an operational setting.
Ability to speak Inuktitut and/or Inuinnaqtun.
