The Detection Supervisor supervises the detection stations in an assigned building, set of buildings (sector) or areas designated as part of the Parliamentary Precinct. The incumbent ensures that standards, policy direction, processes are followed. The Detection Supervisor oversees detection activities and deploys staff and equipment to meet the daily operations. The Detection Supervisor directs groups of Detection Specialists who are either assigned or rotate into the sector to deliver detection services to the Parliamentary Precinct. Where operational requirements demand, the Detection Supervisor may provide assistance with detection services and provide support to detection specialists at detection stations. The Detection Supervisor implements business processes to monitor the detection activities and to test technical detection equipment and tools and is vigilant in anticipating possible security or safety threats within a given area.
The Parliamentary Protective Service (PPS) is a separate and distinct organization and is not subject to the Public Service Employment Act. PPS has its own classification, compensation system and staffing regime. Persons appointed to PPS continue to be part of the federal government and will receive the public service pension plan and public service insurance benefits plan.

Successful completion of secondary school education OR an acceptable combination of education, training and experience.
EXPERIENCE:
E1 - Must have successfully completed the PPS Detection Certification Program as a Detection Specialist.
E2 - Minimum of twelve (12) months experience as a Detection Specialist within the PPS. Note that leave without pay, leave with pay in excess of 30 consecutive days and full-time language training are excluded from the calculation of the 12 months.
E3 - Experience using the MS Office Suite for various administrative tasks.
ASSET:
A1 - Recent* experience supervising employees, including work distribution and other related duties.
DEFINITION:
*Recent means within the last four (4) years.
A2 - Twenty-four (24) months experience as a Detection Specialist within the PPS. Note that leave without pay, leave with pay in excess of 30 consecutive days and full-time language training are excluded from the calculation of the 24 months.
