The Resource Management Officer II (EG-04) takes a lead role in human-wildlife coexistence (HWC) operations and works as part of the Resource Conservation team to ensure ecological integrity and the safety and well-being of both the ecosystem and the public in Jasper National Park.
Duties include conducting active wildlife management operations, including managing wildlife and people in controlled and uncontrolled environments. The EG-04 is also responsible for supervising multiple operational staff, including training, directing workflow, mentoring, and performance management. Additional responsibilities include projects related to human wildlife coexistence strategies, HWC protocols and procedures, wildlife monitoring, wildlife data management and analysis, and other work to address existing and emerging HWC issues. The EG-04 will work within a team to make evidence-based risk assessments and wildlife management decisions using knowledge of wildlife behavior, contemporary wildlife management methods, and ecological concepts.
The EG-04 will be involved in collaborations and communications with other Parks Canada teams (within and outside of Resource Conservation), stakeholders, and the general public. The position includes office and administrative duties related to scheduling, finance, and human resources, as well as equipment maintenance. The EG-04 may also be an active participant in a multifaceted team providing emergency support to other functions such as Visitor Safety and Fire Management.

EDUCATION:
Graduation with a degree from a recognized university with specialization in environmental and/or natural sciences (e.g. biology, ecology, zoology, botany, or forestry) or other discipline relevant to the position; or an acceptable* combination of a post-secondary diploma related to environmental and/or natural sciences and recent** training and experience in a field related to the position.
*An acceptable combination of a diploma and training/experience means a completed post-secondary diploma in a relevant field and a minimum of 2 years working in the environmental and/or natural sciences field on active management operations, ecological monitoring and applied scientific research.

● Experience in the application of technical equipment, procedures, and protocols specific to ecology and wildlife management;

● Experience working with a variety of wildlife management techniques (e.g., hazing, aversive conditioning, capture, immobilization, euthanization, radio-collaring, posting warning and closures, use of wildlife deterrents, wildlife necropsies);
● Experience effectively participating as part of an emergency response team (human/wildlife conflict, search and rescue, fire management, spill response);
● Experience managing people in controlled or uncontrolled environments;

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Willingness to wear a Parks Canada uniform and prescribed protective equipment;
