Are you looking for a new opportunity or challenge? The Strategy and Emergent Technologies branch (SET) is seeking candidates at the EN-ENG-04 group and level for several indeterminate positions.
The main duties of the positions will include:
Contribute to the development and implementation of standards, policies, and procedures related to RPAS product assurance.
Conduct verifications and analyses to support activities related to the design, manufacturing, integration, and testing of systems. Validate their compliance with Part IX regulations and associated Standards.
Develop and update technical guidance for complex RPAS operations.
Review technical content of RPAS operational approval applications for compliance with published guidance.
Review technical implementation of air communication, navigation and surveillance systems
Actively participate in technical and programmatic committees.
Following the publication of the Treasury Board Secretariat Direction on prescribed presence in the workplace, Transport Canada has embarked in the implementation of its hybrid work model at Headquarters and regional offices in Canada. A hybrid work model is a blend of in-office and telework (3 days per week in the office).
The results of this process will initially be used to staff three (3) ENG-04 positions indeterminately.
A pool of qualified candidates could be established to fill similar positions with varying locations, tenures, language profiles, operational requirements, and/or conditions of employment, within Transport Canada – Strategy and emergent Technologies branch. It is to be noted that most of the positions to be filled are located in the National Capital Region.

Education:
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in mechanical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, aeronautical engineering, or some other engineering specialty relevant to the duties of the position.
Occupational Certification: or/and
OC: Eligibility for certification as a professional engineer in Canada with specialization in an engineering specialty relevant to the position.
Experience:
EX1: Experience* in integration and/or validation of traditional aircraft systems or remotely piloted aircraft systems (RPAS).
EX2: Experience evaluating test results based on engineering test plans.
EX3: Experience in leading complex** technical projects.
*Experience is defined as at least 6 years combined.
**Complex is defined as a highly integrated, multi-disciplinary project.
Abilities:
A1: Ability to communicate effectively orally.
A2: Ability to communicate effectively in writing.
A3: Ability to manage, plan a heavy workload and set priorities to ensure deadlines and objectives are met.
ASSET QUALIFICATIONS
Experience:
EXA1: Experience in aircraft level, system level or component level certification.
EXA2: Experience with remotely piloted aircraft systems (RPAS) specific technology such as Command and Control links or Detect and Avoid Systems.
EXA3: Experience participating in the development of regulations, standards and/or guidance material.
EXA4: Experience in airspace management and technologies.
EXA5: Experience using or developing Safety Management Systems for aviation.
EXA6: Hands on remotely piloted aircraft systems (RPAS) operational experience.
EXA7: Experience working in a highly regulated environment and comfortable working beyond where regulations or even best practices do not yet exist.
OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Limited requirement to travel to local, national and international destinations.
Limited requirement to travel via all modes of transportation to remote and/or isolated locations.
Limited requirement to work in an aviation environment (i.e. noise, fumes, hazards).
Limited requirement to work overtime, irregular hours and week-ends.
*Limited is defined as several times a year and is not a continuous requirement.
