Installs and removes police emergency equipment and telecommunications equipment in accordance with RCMP policy and guidelines, including the modification of electronic and electrical systems to integrate police equipment into vehicle circuitry and to defeat or reconfigure vehicle features as required without compromising the vehicle's integrity or functionality. Identifies, reports and repairs potential health and safety issues related to the installation of equipment as it pertains to the operation of the vehicle. Plans, designs, modifies and fabricates specialty equipment, safety equipment and mounting equipment for police applications, including police radios, radar sets, cameras, modems, cell phones and smart link (siren) systems. Coaches and provides technical support to technician assistants.

This process will initially be used to staff one position on an indeterminate basis, and create a pool of qualified candidates. This pool of qualified candidates may be used to staff similar positions with various tenures within the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (i.e. indeterminate, term, deployment, acting, assignment and secondment).

Operational Requirements:
Willingness to work in a garage environment exposed to noise, temperature fluctuations, and odours caused by diesel and gas exhaust fumes.
Willingness to work, weekends, overtime and statutory holidays.
Willingness to work in a variety of weather conditions and terrain for extended periods of time.
Willingness and ability to lift and carry boxes or equipment weighing up to 50 lbs on a daily basis.
Must have the strength and stamina for working with equipment and in cramped or awkward positions.
Willing and able to perform manual labour, such as shoveling snow or assisting with the installation of heavy equipment.
Reliability Status security clearance - Those selected must meet and maintain this condition throughout their employment.
