Provides skilled mechanical maintenance, repair and modification of heavy and light vehicles, equipment, and marine vessels in a Parks Canada Agency field unit.

Located in Honey Harbour, ON., Georgian Bay Islands National Park and Beausoleil Island National Historic Site, along with their trusted partners, are proud ambassadors of the world’s largest freshwater archipelago along southeastern Georgian Bay. Located a few hours drive from the Greater Toronto Area, the park and historic site welcome thousands of visitors each year, who come for inspiration, recreation, and to connect with nature.
The position will report to Georgian Bay Islands National Park in Honey Harbour, ON. The park fleet consists of:
• 7-9 light duty vehicles
• 2-4 heavy duty vehicles
• 12-14 marine vessels
• Small engine equipment (lawnmowers, chainsaws, etc.)
This position is the solitary mechanic position at Georgian Bay Islands National Park. While taking direction from park management and a direct manager, this position works independently to support the mechanical needs of the parks operations.

EDUCATION:
Secondary school diploma OR an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience
OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION:
• Possession of a valid Truck and Coach Technician license and/or Automotive Service Technician license issued by the Province of Ontario or Interprovincial Journeyperson Certificates equivalent to the Truck and Coach Technician license and/or Automative Service Technician license
AND/OR
• Possession of a valid Automotive Service Technician license issued by the Province of Ontario or Interprovincial Journeyperson Certificates equivalent to the Automotive Service Technician license
AND/OR
• Possession of a valid Heavy Duty Equipment Technician license issued by the Province of Ontario or Interprovincial Journeyperson Certificates equivalent to the Heavy-Duty Equipment Technician license
EXPERIENCE:
• Recent and significant** experience in maintaining and repairing gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles and equipment such as but not limited to automobiles, motorboats, lawn mowers, skid steers, tractors, etc.
• Experience diagnosing mechanical issues in marine equipment and performing repairs and maintenance on various marine units.
• Experience in the re-powering of older marine vessels.
• Experience in ordering and/or controlling supplies.
• Experience in the use of computers
Recent and significant ** are defined as a minimum of two (2) years work experience, acquired outside of school, within the last five (5) years
KNOWLEDGE:
• Knowledge of preventative maintenance principles, procedures, and regulations
• Knowledge of troubleshooting and diagnostic techniques related to marine equipment
ABILITIES:
• Ability to diagnose equipment faults using laptop or supplied service manuals and plan/perform appropriate corrective actions
• Ability to plan and prioritize a varied workload and manage conflicting priorities
• Ability to analyze and resolve problems independently and propose corrective measures
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION:
• Marine Engine Technician Certificate of Apprenticeship issued by Skilled Trades Ontario or interprovincial equivalent.

• Experience in the operation of marine vessels
OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Willingness to wear a Parks Canada uniform when required;
• Willingness to work irregular hours, overtime, weekends and/or statutory holidays and provincial/territorial holidays, when required;
• Willingness to undergo and pass pre-placement and periodic medical checks, *may be required depending on the position*.
• Willingness to work and/or travel in varied terrain containing wildlife (such as bear, snakes)
• Willingness to work and/or travel in varied weather conditions, isolated locations and by various means of transportation;
• Willing to obtain a valid PCOC card (Pleasure Craft Operators Card)
• Committed to personal and job safety before proceeding with a task
• Applies safe work practices and supervisory input to perform tasks safely.
• Must be willing to obtain and maintain first aid certification
Reliability Status security clearance
• Must possess and maintain a minimum Class G drivers licence
