Who can apply: Individuals legally authorized to work in Canada who reside or are employed in Maitland Bridge, NS and within a 200 kilometer radius of Maitland Bridge, NS, within Canadian territory, extending to, amongst others, Yarmouth, NS, Pugwash, NS, Upper Stewiacke, NS, Ship Harbour, NS, St. Stephen, NB, Oromocto, NB, Moncton, NB, Port Elgin, NB. Parks Canada is a federal government agency responsible for the protection and presentation of Canada’s outstanding natural and cultural resources through a system of national parks, national marine conservation areas and national historic sites in all regions of Canada.

Intent of the process

This process will be used to fill anticipated vacancies as full-time term employment opportunities arise in the Mainland Nova Scotia Field Unit. They are anticipated to be 3 months with the possibility of extension.

From the work locations currently listed on the poster, please clearly identify in your application the work location(s) in which you are prepared to work.

This process will be used to create a pool of qualified candidates to staff similar positions with various tenures, security levels or linguistic profiles in same or other parts of the country.

Successful completion of Grade 10 or an equivalent to provincial standards.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE
• Experience in general construction of various small structures such as board walks, platforms, fences, etc.

• Experience in the maintenance of turf, grounds, trails and other related labour duties.

• Experience in general and semi-skilled maintenance and repair of facilities, structures, equipment and utilities.

KNOWLEDGE
• Knowledge of labour work procedures for general construction and maintenance operations.
• Knowledge of safe working habits and regulations related to the Canada Labour Code.
• Knowledge of operation and maintenance of various light motorized tools, hand tools, construction equipment and ATVs.

ABILITIES
• Ability to read and understand written instructions.
• Ability to carry out labour duties as directed.
• Ability to operate light motorized equipment.
• Ability to communicate orally and in writing to a broad range of groups and individuals.
• Ability to inspect and report on the condition of facilities and structures.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
• Valid First Aid and CPR certificate at the standard level.
• Willingness to work in all weather conditions normally encountered from April through October in the central inland portion of Nova Scotia.
• Required to physically perform strenuous work and walk extended distances while carrying a load up to 40 kg.
• Required to wear a Parks Canada uniform as per the uniform policy.
• Required to wear appropriate protective clothing.
• Willingness to work overtime, holidays, weekends, after hours.

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance

Possess and maintain a valid Class 5 driver’s license or equivalent.
