Duties

As an EGS tech, you will be employed to:
• Install, operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair mobile electrical generators and associated control equipment (10%) – This includes weekly preventative maintenance (PM) checks, monthly maintenance checks, semi-annual maintenance checks, annual maintenance checks, and quinquennial (5-year) maintenance checks on trailer-mounted, containerized, and construction site portable generator sets.
• Install, operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair power plant electrical generators and associated control equipment (40%) – This includes weekly preventative maintenance (PM) checks, monthly maintenance checks, semi-annual maintenance checks, annual maintenance checks, and quinquennial (5-year) maintenance checks on static (permanent) installed generator sets which includes generator sets housed in pad-mounted enclosures, and standalone “quiet sites.”
• Install, operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair engine prime movers associated with equipment driven by Construction Engineers (10%) – This includes PM checks on standby engine-driven water pump arrangements for fire suppression.
• Install, operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair Static Uninterruptable Power Systems and Rotary Uninterruptable Power Systems (15%) – This includes weekly, monthly, semi-annual, annual, and quinquennial PM checks on various UPS makes/models and sizes.
• Overhaul electrical generation systems and equipment (10%) – This includes control wiring overhauls and ancillary systems overhauls.
• Produce designs and specifications (5%) – This includes conducting industry research and contributing technical advice on shop projects.
• Produce mechanical and electrical drawings (5%) – This includes drafting reconnaissance drawings for proposed generator set installations or portable generator set placements and cable layouts.
• Perform brazing/welding and machining work (5%) – This includes workshop and field repair welding/brazing, and workshop and field metal fabrication.

Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to create an inventory of candidates for current and future vacancies with various tenures, linguistic profiles, and security requirements at the Department of National Defence. There is an immediate need to fill one (1), English essential GL MAM 09 position on an indeterminate (permanent) basis in Halifax, Nova Scotia

An acceptable combination of education, training and experience

Degree equivalency

Experience
EX1: Experience in the Electrical Generation Systems Field which includes repairing equipment such as: mechanical engines, diesel powered electrical generators, electronic control systems, or related equipment
EX2: Experience with electrical AC/DC theory
EX3: Experience reading, writing, and interpreting electrical drawings and schematics
