The Population Studies Division of the Environmental Health Science and Research Bureau, Health Canada applies epidemiological and biostatistical methods to generate knowledge of the potential adverse health effects of environmental chemical exposures. The Division conducts research that contributes to evidence-based decisions on key areas such as exposure assessment, vulnerable populations and health impacts. In addition to conducting research, scientists and professionals support the development of policies, standards, and guidelines for health protection, and contribute to the analysis of current and emerging risks to health.
The successful candidate(s) will lead a supervised research project in environmental/reproductive epidemiology related to their degree program. This will include drafting a research proposal, conducting a literature review, cleaning and managing large datasets, performing statistical analysis, and drafting a manuscript for publication in a peer-reviewed journal. Critical to the success of this process is collaboration with both internal and external researchers in a team environment while incorporating feedback throughout the process.

Eligibility
You are eligible for this program if you meet these 3 requirements:
•You are a full-time student in a post-secondary institution
•You are enrolled in an academic program that requires research as part of your curriculum
•You meet the minimum age required in the province/territory of work

Education:
The Student must be currently enrolled in a Masters or Doctoral degree program at a recognized post-secondary institution with a specialization in epidemiology. Students not currently enrolled in an epidemiology program but with sufficient* graduate-level epidemiology and biostatistics training may be considered.
* Sufficient means at least 1 (one) completed graduate level course in epidemiology and at least 1 (one) completed graduate level course in biostatistics.
Candidates submitting their application must have verified with their academic supervisor or department head (as appropriate) that they will be authorized to conduct research work for Health Canada (to be assessed at the interview stage).
Experience:
Ex1 - Experience conducting statistical analysis of research data using SAS or R, including multivariable regression modelling.
Ex2 - Experience in reproductive or environmental epidemiology.
Ex3 - Experience in reviewing and interpreting scientific data.
Ex4 - Experience developing a research proposal in epidemiology.
Abilities:
A1-Ability to communicate effectively in writing*

Asset Experience:
At least 1 (one) year of experience in conducting research in environmental or reproductive epidemiology.
