Duties

A Gas Technician installs, inspects, repairs, and removes natural gas or propane appliances and their parts. Duties include working with pipes, vents, water lines, and electrical wiring connected to these appliances, maintaining and replacing mechanical and electrical parts, handling gas-side components of cooling units, and servicing flues shared with oil appliances. The role also includes mentoring apprentices, completing reports and paperwork, and working with various equipment like boilers, furnaces, infrared heaters, hot water tanks, air handlers, NG steam humidifiers, NG dehumidifiers and generator piping.

Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to create an inventory of candidates for current and future vacancies with various tenures, linguistic profiles, and security requirements at the Department of National Defence. There is an immediate need to fill one (1), English essential GLMAM09 position on an indeterminate (permanent) basis in Petawawa, Ontario.

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION
OC1. Possession of a valid Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) Gasfitter 1 (G1) license.

EXPERIENCE
EX1. Experience working as a gas technician.
EX2. Experience in the operation, maintenance and installation of residential, commercial, industrial and institutional heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration units and systems.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
COE1. Reliability security status
COE2. Must maintain a valid TSSA Gasfitter 1 (G1) license.
COE3. Must possess and maintain a valid class “G” driver’s license issued by the Province of Ontario or provincial or territorial equivalent.
COE4. An acceptable driver’s abstract provided within 30 days of request, dated no earlier than 30 days prior to the request.
COE5. Must be willing to obtain and maintain a DND 404 driving permit.
COE6. May include but not limited to wearing Personal Protective Equipment used in a construction/maintenance environment, standing, climbing, walking, lifting, bending, pulling, pushing, grasping, reaching, stooping, and crouching, sitting, reading, writing, colour determination, speaking and listening, and working in hot and cold environments for extended periods of time.
COE7. Willingness to travel to undertake training as required.
COE8. Willingness to be on a standby or a call-in list and asked to respond after hours in accordance with the collective agreement.
COE9. Willingness to work overtime including weekends
COE10. Strict adherence to the Department of National Defence and Canadian Forces Code of Values and Ethics, Values and Ethics Code for the Public Sector,
