Work environment

The department's facility at 90 Elgin Street is in the heart of downtown Ottawa. The building is equipped with state-of-the art technologies to support collaboration and innovation. The area is served by all major bus routes and a light rail station, and employees have access in the building to amenities such as a library and showers, change rooms and secure bicycle storage, allowing them to commute using the National Capital Region's bike path system.

The Department of Finance Canada uses a hybrid work model. Our hybrid work model is consistent with the Common hybrid work model for the Federal Public Service which requires Departments to establish a minimum attendance requirement of at least 3 days each week onsite. Specific work arrangements should be discussed with the manager at the time of hire.

While candidates may be eligible for relocation expenses, Finance Canada may approve requests for full-time telework as well as work hours in the respective time zone of the telework location, between 7 am and 6 pm (e.g., 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM PST, meaning 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM EST).

EDUCATION:
E1: Successful completion of two years of a post-secondary program with acceptable specialization* in social science, statistics, library/archival work or a law-related field.

*Note: The specialization may also be obtained through an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE
EX1: Experience, of at least one year, in translating texts of administrative, legal, and/or quasi-legal nature from English to French.

EX2: Experience in providing linguistic support for legislation, legal texts or administrative documents to ensure technical or legal accuracy, as well as the quality of French and/or English versions.

KNOWLEDGE:
K1: Knowledge of the principles and practices of translation and revision
K2: Knowledge of language research tools and techniques
K3: Knowledge of legal terminology

COMPETENCIES :
C1: Thinking things through
C2: Showing initiative and being action oriented
C2: Working effectively with others

ABILITIES:
A1: Ability to communicate effectively orally
A2: Ability to communicate effectively in writing
A3: Ability to edit documents written in French and to translate documents from English to French

Experience in carrying out revision work in accordance with established operational service standards for the publication of translated legislation and related documents, while following jurilinguistic and linguistic policies and practices to ensure revision quality.
